You just listed two pricey restaurants....It wasn't too long ago (8 years) where two could eat for as little as $20 downtown. Many of old "cheap" restaurants and dives have disappeared. This sort of proves my point about Downtown and the surrounding area being somewhat pricey for regular joes.

No, I've been pretty open about how I think this is a mistake, but to make it sound like 'all my favourite buildings are getting torn down' is an incredibly hyperbolic statement.

Except it isn't hyperbolic when you see how many old buildings have been torn down in the past 20 years and how many are almost guaranteed to be demo'd or modified. The Hudson Bay's downtown building was just sold last week to an Asian developer. Guaranteed we see another project akin to the Exchange.

Cities are dynamic entities, especially those as young and fast growing as Vancouver. If you expect a city like this to stand still you're going to be perpetually disappointed.

I grew up expecting the City and surrounding suburbs to evolve, but we cannot ignore this city's roots. It was once a logging and manufacturing powerhouse- and it legitimately feels we are eradicating any traces of what gave this City any character. My old man recalls how furious he was when they demolished the Birks building. This City tried hard to "modernize" in the 70's...It would have been great to retain some elements from the booming years in Vancouver.
