Not to divert this thread too much, but I 100% agree, and it's not just a problem with 42nd St. Basically every East-West street in Midtown, along with Lexington Ave, is borderline dangerous because of overcrowding on sidewalks. Sidewalks desperately need to be widened in Midtown/Midtown South.
