Here an interesting fact; Ottawa's Rideau Station will have the longest escalator in Canada.

The escalator is about 180 steps and 120 feet long, and will take you to Rideau and Sussex streets. Rideau station is the deepest of all the stations on the line.

Longer than Beaudry station? From the pics, it sure doesn't look like it. I'm looking to get some info on the length of the escalators at that station. They had replaced the moving carpets to escalators a decade or so ago.

How long are the Granville escalators on the Expo Line?

They always gave me a bit of a case of vertigo.

(The Granville and Burrard Expo Line stations have always reminded me of the London Underground)

That's a really crappy picture, but that's just showing the escalators being installed. There might be more sections coming, though I'm not sure.

I had explicitely stated that they changed the carpet to an escalator While the surface may seem flat, it is still an escalator.

Slight change to the proposed ION Phase 2 LRT extension to Cambridge was released by Grand River Transit. The new route (in red) is claimed to be less disruptive to existing properties and be slightly faster than the previous route proposal.

Granville is about 25m deep, and the longest escalator is about 14.65m (48 ft) in height. If you use the typical 30 degree incline for escalators, that would be about 96ft in length.

The drl ha sits elevations out now, I think the deepest station is about 35m down. Most of them (if not all) are more than 20m down to track level.

Phase 1 will be far from useless, first and foremost it will create a Hub connection between the Canada Line and the Millennium Line, therefore people transferring between the two (and even those wanting to access the Expo Line) will no longer need to go downtown and transfer at Waterfront.

Second around 50% of people who board the 99 B Line at Commercial / Broadway disembark before Arbutus. The other half generally continue to UBC.

^^ Completely agree. Phase One will still connect the Canada Line with the Millenium/Expo lines and much of the traffic on the 99B-Line gets off before Arbutus. The Broadway Corridor is a major employment and shopping district and the first phase will serve this area as well as the huge employers of VGH and City Hall.

I still see it as a rolling carpet. We can open a new debate; where's the line between a rolling carpet and an escalator? To me, it's the stairs.

Ya, the first thing I thought of was Granville station. That long ride down that escalator is enough to give even the most height hardy individual the willies. If they dug any deeper you would be in, dare I say it, China.

You should avoid Metro Stations in Russia and the Ukraine. I've been in the Park Pobedy station and at the top of the escalator you can't even see the bottom. And vice versa
