has anyone seen the new bus shelter in queensborough? Its pretty cool

Can't wait to see it tagged and the windows acid etched!

Unless they are actual station houses that actually have some form of surveillance and care / maintenance, we shouldn't waste our money on these type of things.

Canadians aren't mature enough for such features sadly.

(that is unless there was some local community group or association that help fund / will maintain this)

Nice one.

Bus shelters are the responsibility of the host municipality - so I wonder if New West will see other fancy shelters (or maybe this was a one-off from a developer?)

I don't really agree. This is true in some neighbourhoods, but definitely not so in others. I know of lots of nice shelters that have been around for a couple years now and still look fine.

Were does the #22 cross over a rail crossing? I can't see one in my mind for the entire route.

It was a joint project between New West's Public Art Program and Engineering Department. Here's the call that was put out by the city a year ago.

That could be because they are actually maintained by some group or association (which then I support) but if there is no maintenance plan in place before opening then I am critical of such projects.

Perfect example is the glass plains near the skating rink at Robson Square. They looked great the first couple days after they were installed before the Olympics, but nearly immediately someone acid etched all over them. I thought to myself "I hope they fix / replace these quickly" ... During my visit last summer the acid etched pains were still there...

That's offensive and comes off as racist. Your lumping all Canadians as a group where we go around and vandalize everything. Give me a break

Is this sarcasm?

No, some cultures are more mature than others in different aspects aspects, and vandalism for example is far more prevalent in some cultures than others, has nothing to do with race...

PS, I am Canadian...

Also it is not just those who do the vandalism, but it is the slow (to sometimes non existent) response to repair / remove such vandalism, so yes, then it does become a cultural problem / issue.

Just like not everyone loves guns in America, but it is an American problem, not everyone loves overworking in Japan, but it is a Japanese problem, and many seem pretty quick to label entire police forces (or the police nation / world wide in general) as having police brutality problems, so whats the difference?

This is true, and I hated seeing it there (and actually made me somewhat disappointed in my European trips). But being better than worse does not equal good.

I have a lot of pride in civic spaces and public transit, and I hate seeing them being disrespected.

lol that bus stop is all flash without substance. Is it so hard to have a shelter that's functional and durable, with proper visibility, lighting, and signage?

Well they're not. It's not uncommon to see the local stops with blown out windows or trash around or trash and graffiti around the bus loops and skytrain stations.

Waterfront SeaBus terminal getting $17M seismic, accessibility upgrades

The 42-year-old Waterfront SeaBus station will be seismically upgraded and expanded as part of TransLink’s maintenance and repair program.

The improvements to the station were announced this morning.

“Our customers tell us they want reliable service, and to deliver we need to invest in our facilities, our fleet and our infrastructure,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Desmond. “These are the investments that keep our system running.”

Upgrades will include one replacement elevator and one new elevator, four replacement escalators and a new staircase, that will help improve the flow of foot traffic. The building will also be extended into the adjacent parking lot and have a new entrance and Compass vending machine for people who are entering the station from Helijet and the waterfront area.

This rendering shows what the Waterfront Seabus station will look like after it is expanded. Improvements include seismic upgrades, one replacement and one new elevator, four replacement escalators and a new staircase. SUBMITTED/TRANSLINK / PNG
