I believe Class A is considered secured bicycle storage (i.e. a bike room in the underground parkade). Class B relates to a bike rack on the sidewalk for people visiting the building or surrounding area.

Would be super slick to have an automated bike storage system.

I seen them somewhere - want to say Tokyo or Shanghai.

Tokyo is where you've seen them.

They're super cool when they're working. Problem is qualified technicians in North America. We have enough trouble running our elevators here.

Not to derail this thread further, but apparently 'The Post' redevelopment will include an "Automated, secure, cartridge bicycle storage system" per this backgrounder PDF on Quadreal's website:

Fair point.

Escalators and elevators are a nightmare.

A few shots of the models from today's open house, my pics:

The design might look better if they were higher considering the height of the towers planned nearby. Ironically some of the coveted views these towers would have will probably be blocked by the neighbouring towers.

I think the height is fine with regards to the design

I don't trust Bosa to execute well, but it's a terrific design.

Holy - this could be such an amazing block for architecture in the the city.

Butterfly, these beauties, and hopefully something equally pleasing as the birds nest proposed while back.

Great!!

I went and wrote a diatribe on the height reduction these projects faced. I guess I was in a mood but of all projects it seemed ridiculous that these projects were held back due to shadowing on Robson.

I spoke to the project architect there and he confirmed what Jlousa already told us, that the Butterfly and adjacent Pixel were originally planned to be the city's tallest before planning cut them down.

Which is such a massive shame given the fact those two sites are likely geographically highest in Downtown.

Plus both towers are fantastic design - absolutely merit being the crowns to DT.

Are you serious? Do the people at the city have a phobia or something?

The most ironic part is the areas these towers would have cast shadows on are / will be covered with trees casting their own shadows anyway...

Joined by a Guest Panelist, Vancouver’s UDP Dismisses View Cone in Favour of Ole Scheeren’s Exceptional Twin Towers
1040-1080 Barclay Street
There are many view corridors of the North Shore Mountains that Vancouverites hold sacred, however many would agree that the growing tree canopy in Queen Elizabeth Park has rendered the view cones from that location nearly obsolete. Recognizing this, city policy was changed in the 2011 view cone review to allow buildings of exceptional design to protrude into that the tree covered view. Familiar with Vancouver’s demands, and fresh off their successful 1515 Alberni proposal, world renowned firm Buro Ole Scheeren has submitted a new iconic design for Vancouver’s West End.

As city policy holds these buildings to a higher standard, the UDP was joined by one of Vancouver’s renowned architects...

....With these recommendations approved, the agenda item was over, and the esteemed guest panel member was free to head home, 2 hours before his son’s presentation of the Oakridge Mall redevelopment later that the night.

Ya I'd say the UDP nailed the responses on this one.

Yeah, the drawings look great! But aren’t they about 10 metres too tall? Unless something wonderful has happened and they were increased from 139 metres to the more appropriate 150ish metres for the design... (obviously I don’t believe that)
