Another reason why it's good to have reflective glass so it gives you privacy.

Well they live downtown, do they really expect that downtown Vancouver is going to quit redeveloping?!

That must be a City requirement, as it's stupidly camouflaged against the building during the day.

Pic by me today.

Blame the city and its hate-on for anything corporate.

You want to talk camouflage, try finding Lawson Lundell's signage on a cloudy day on Cathedral Place.

In other news, this building truly ruins the feng shui of some units in the neighboring Jameson House. I couldn't imagine living in a unit all those office windows looking directly into my kitchen and living room...

On the other hand, if this building were to be skinnier and taller.......

That's hurting... I wonder what the resale (if any) hit would be on those units?

Well one of those facing units was listing for $600K five years ago and the same unit was around $1 million in the past year.

well, Jameson is in the downtown core of a major world city. Expect skyscrapers to come up and 'eventually' block your precious views. ....

Blocking views is one thing.

But that's up close and personal with a building directly beside.

Not what I would expect to have in a condo of Jameson Houses pedigree.

Welcome to city living. That's a reality and anyone who buys a condo in a downtown core should expect that.

^ was my point.

Perhaps Jameson House should have been built in a residential highrise neighbourhood like Coal Harbour, West End, or Yaletown if they wanted their views to be protected.

Nope, they built in the CBD and the Financial District is moving their way as evidence of this and other facade restorative skyscraper projects. ... Better get used to it.

Jamison residents bought into a district where the zoning clearly allowed adjacent towers. What they expected is beyond me. The fact that they got a concession where the developer removed a corner of their tower is beyond what should have been given.

why is residential even allowed to be built in a business district in the first place?

That's what rather baffles me, too. Why do Jameson House residents expect - and get - special privileges, and why is JH smack in the CBD, anyway? It's a conundrum.
I mean, globally, JH is a sleek building, especially with those curves at the western end, but it should have been mixed-use at least, not entirely residential. IMO

It is mixed-use. The lower levels are office space.

If there's preservation and designation of heritage buildings then it can be considered provided the base commercial zoning is met first. It was a different era, and there was a Director of Planning keen to see more housing Downtown - 'Living First'. There are two heritage buildings that were part of Jameson, one completely preserved, and one as a façade. The engineering to keep them up while the parking was dug underneath was impressive.

The Metro Core Plan about ten years ago ensured almost all of the CBD only allows commercial uses in future, although there are a few where some housing can still be considered. One example is the Bay Parkade, where the Dunsmuir Hotel is a potential for heritage designation, and is also a non-market housing building (although too dangerous to be used these days). It will still have to have a lot of commercial space though.

Repairs to the sign already?

It has been lit the past few nights - the lettering lights up white.
Now if the lettering were white during the day, this pic shows how legible/prominent it would be.

The lettering on the East facade is white. I think they were testing both and are now going with the white.
