This is such a mega announcement that I can't imagine that this is a temporary thing until a more permanent space downtown or at MHS opens up. I think the Sears retail space has been lost for good.........
You are probably correct. CF to invest $25 million for the conversion.

This is a prestigious tenant (TD) and there is a big trend to bring offices and jobs within retail destinations, but often it's in the form of an office tower. However, the project and especially the look is absolutely suburban in nature. I would've liked to see this project itself elsewhere in Moncton, especially downtown . This (Sears facing Champlain Street) is possibly one of the most prominent retail location in greater Moncton, so that in itself is a loss. So we finally now know that Simons, Hudson's Bay, Archambault or Canadian Tire were not interested in coming and or were not selected by CF.

PS: this is definitely permanent.

this would be a good addition to the Moncton scene (Kelsey's restaurant) apparently trying to establish in Moncton and Fred

Kelsey's was on Mountain road near Fairlaines bowling maybe in the late 80's early 90's. I was there 4 or 5 times when I worked for the railway.

I believe they also used to be in Fredericton.
I seem to recall bringing one of my children there when he was very young. They would weigh the child and you paid a penny per pound for the child to eat.
My boy was devastated when we got there and the scale was broken LOL. He wanted to be weighed so badly [ for some reason I could never figure out.
The awesome waiter pretended to weigh him anyway, then charged him 25 cents to eat, ha ha. Great place!

I may be wrong, but I think the Freddy location was where Jungle Jims is now. There's been more than a few restaurants in there since then.

I remember Kelsey’s on Mountain Road in Moncton. It was my favourite place to eat when I first moved to the city. It closed sometime in the late 1990s

Do you remember Kelsey's being where the TD Bank is now besides Fairlanes bowling? I left Moncton in 1993, I think it was still there.

It was where the Maple Leaf Grill used to be before it closed

That was Keystone Kelly's. I don't think Kelsey's has ever been in Fredericton.

Yup that was it. For whatever reason (all the K's in the names I guess) I keep mixing them up every time someone brings Kelsey's up in Freddy.

Wicker Emporium has filed for creditor protection

West 49 may be closing their Champlain Place store. There are rumours to that effect and a major clearance sale is underway

That could explain why the WE Factory Outlet is closing at East Point at the end of next month.

According to Halifax ReTales, the opening of the new Cabela's store at Dartmouth Crossing has been delayed for several weeks as the retailer has decided to do some last minute reconfiguring to turn it into the world's first Bass Pro Shop/Cabela's Combo Store.

http://halifax.retales.ca/2018/04/pizza-kilts-vegan-losses-and-yakisoba/

1) - I wonder if this will have any effect on the Bass Pro Shop store here in Moncton? Worst case scenario, if BPS decided to close their Moncton store, they would still have a backup store in Halifax to serve their Maritime customers. I'm not saying this is what's going to happen, but it is a point of concern and we should keep an eye on this.
2) - On the other hand (taking a more optimistic view), I have wondered if BPS would ever consider a "Cabela's boutique" within the Moncton store after the closure of the Cabela's here - the two stores after all were not absolute clones of one another. Cabela's had more of a hunting focus.
3) - The Dartmouth Crossing store remains —-ugly on the outside, having none of the styling or flair of either the current BPS store or former Cabela's store in Moncton. BPS stores in particular are well known as being "destination stores". The Dartmouth Crossing store just looks like a typical big box store without any architectural embellishments. In fact, it looks more like a factory outlet store........

I see that the Superstore fuel station has now been rebranded to Mobil here in Moncton. Nice new livery, but with the imminent arrival of Costco Gas in the city, this is likely to be a futile effort. In fact, there's gotta be more gas stations in Moncton than in any other similar sized city in the country. It makes you wonder what sort of a shakeout might occur once Costco opens their gas bar later this year. it's hard to imagine them all surviving.........

I recall only seeing Mobil stations in the U.S.. I do not travel as much as I used to. Are there any other Mobils in Atlantic Canada?

Mobil bought out the Superstore gas bars across Canada. The only Mobil's you will see around here AFAIK will be at Superstores (unless they have additional expansion plans that I am not aware of).

I got a text from them stating they are having a store closing sale. However they did they last time when they moved from the food court. I imagine they’ll relocate to another part of the mall at a later date.
