For Fredericton's most famous roundabout, there is only one pedestrian crossing. It has an island, and is signalled.

We have smaller roundabouts, with less traffic so the pedestrian crossings aren't really a problem.

I suspect when they put a roundabout on Smythe @ Woodstock road, they will have islands and crossing signals for pedestrians at all entrances and exits, since that intersection is high traffic and high pedestrian traffic.

The other thing Fredericton has done well with pedestrians is changing which type of signals we use for crossings. Aside from changing all new crossing to the zebra pattern, the newer crosswalks on major thoroughfares have changes from this overhead design, which is hardly visible in the daylight to this, which has feels like a street-level detail, encouraging drivers not to behave as if they were on a highway while catching their attention with bright yellow LEDs.

Yah I had problems with the orientation as well. Most images are from the south. Figured out where the river was then WEM. Plus you can just see Ft Sask in the upper left.

Cool video, Franks! Another fun fact: the 407/400 interchange is the only 4 level stack interchange in Canada.

I drive on the 407 about once a week when there is a major incident on the 401. While I appreciate the time savings, I've observed that certain aspects of the 407 - the modern safety engineering, the lack of congestion, lack of enforcement (even moreso than other GTA highways) and the fact that toll highways may self-select for unconfident but well off drivers - may lead to driver laziness and carelessness.

While drivers on other 400-series highways around the GTA are a bit more alert, 407 drivers have some of the worst lane discipline I've ever seen. They often stick to the lane they're in and drive as fast or as slow as they want with little regard to their surroundings. Just about the only "rule" I notice is that the left-most lane is reserved for people who want to drive really fast.

Conventionally, only this design of interchange is referred to as a true stack:

Based on the commonly held definition of what constitutes a "stack" interchange, neither the old or the new Trucot interchanges would be considered "stacks".

The old Turcot interchange uses left exits as well as offsetting ramp geometry which doesn't really meet the true definition of a "stack". Same for the new interchange. There are still the same left exits, and the new ramp from the A-720 westbound to A-15/20 south/eastbound goes around the interchange rather than directly overtop of it. Again this disqualifies it from being a true "stack". There both still huge interchange complexes, they just aren't true "stack" interchanges.

What was that 407 drive worth, about $30 in tolls. I now take the 407 as a matter of routine when driving between Ottawa and K-W or London. Despite the cost, it's vastly better than suffering through the 401 through Toronto.
