It's basically like an open-air version of what they did at the NRC testing facility.

But was it intentional?

I wonder if the intent was the have the train on the west portion to run a bunch of tests on all the different cross-overs and such but not have to bring it through the tunnel as they are still working on one of tracks in there.

That was my suspicion, but if that's the case, why not leave it somewhere a bit more sheltered, given the forecast, unless they are killing 2 birds with one stone. It won't be normal for them to store trains out in the open like that.

They've been leaving trains out in the open for ages on the Eastern portion. They usually have one sitting around cyrville overnight and on weekends. I think they just leave them wherever they are when they reach quitting time and don't bother bringing them back to the shed

If they wanted to bring the western train back home they could have done so.. Even if only one track is done in the tunnel it could have driven the wrong way using the crossovers.

I was listening to Rob Snow on CFRA and he was interviewing Doug Ford. Rob asked Doug if he would honour the financial commitment to stage 2 LRT and Doug said he would 100%. He also said he is committed to supporting the constitution of the new Civic Hospital campus.

CFRA website sucks! I tried hard to find the interview, but wasn't able to.

I don't like Rob Snow. Conservative nut IMHO. But I do appreciate that he's the first to ask about Stage 2 and the Civic to Doug Ford point blank. Doug's answer on these two issues puts my mind at ease. I will continue to follow the election campaign closely to make an informed decision...

Actually my first time listening to him. I was flipping back and forth with 1310 News trying to get an update on the power outage but both stations just had talk shows. I miss the old 1310 News that was 24/7 News.

Not an audio clip, but here is a reference:

Speaking on Newstalk 580 CFRA’s News and Views with Rob Snow Ford also said he would be committed to ensuring provincial funding remains for two major projects in Ottawa.

Ford says he is 100% committed to keeping $1 billion in funding in place for Phase 2 of LRT in Ottawa. He also says he will keep funding in place for the new Civic hospital.

Go to: http://autopod.ca/chum/181/podcasts/

1) There are two entries for April 16, click on the second one.

2) Start the audio clip at 58:12

Alternatively, here is the direct link to the entire episode: http://cloud.autopod.ca/podcasts/chum/181/63023/News.180416.mp3

Regarding local issues (affecting Ottawa and LRT), it's closer to the very end of the clip.

We are so lucky that we are not experiencing the same delivery problems as in Toronto and Kitchener-Waterloo.

Good Day.

OK - so, like, seeing the pics over the last 1-2 months, I finally have to ask the forum at large -

Does anybody have a good rationale for the large amount of open space on the south side of the Tunney's trench just east of the station.... where the track pair jogs to the north side of the trench to enter the station ?

I know it's on top of the collector, so there was lots of room to play in anyway, but....

So I have 3 ideas, but no basis for explaining the space....
1) a spare parts and materials depot space
2) that Tunney's was to have been a center platform station with rails splitting wide to each side and then they changed their minds late in the process
3) that they may put in a LRV storage siding there in the future

Any other opinions? guesses? shots-in-the-dark? actual knowledge?

Thx.

Good question. I was very surprised when they widened the trench at the north side to make room for a transformer box, and then seemed to leave so much room on the south side.

I feel like the most likely answer is number 3. Tunney's was always meant to have side platforms.

I think they just needed more space between the station building and Scott street for bus bays and eventual complete-streeting. If you ride a bicycle past there, the MUP turns into a shared sidewalk at that point.

I also think they'll need room to drive a service vehicle through the trench without necessarily affecting operations.

A storage siding in that area could come in quite handy if the Sens arena moves to Lebreton to cue up some trains awaiting the surge in riders at the conclusion of the game.

That is an excellent point.
