I didn't find photos, but I read that Luckman's wife had a rose garden on the roof) -no doubt to go with that 'ranch house look' you mentioned.

Thanks ER! Charles Luckman Had quite a run of careers. I visited the building before the days of ubiquitous camera phones and it was more for a job interview than a tour. There used to be an online photo gallery but the link is now dead and it’s not archived anywhere I could find.

Angelus Temple? under construction [THE SELLER ISN'T SURE]

It looks VERY close to being the Angelus Temple... but I don't think it is.

For one thing, it appears to lack the Doric pilasters - and the arched windows that go between them:

The eBay seller doesn't seem to be sure that this is even Los Angeles - he could be right about that.

At first I thought it might be the old "Siege of Paris" panorama that you mentioned here, ER, but upon inspection it looks nothing like the building above.

Beyond that, what other domed buildings are there (or were there) in Los Angeles?

.I thought perhaps the 'ring' around the dome hadn't been built yet with the photo was taken. (but somehow it still looked wrong)
When I first saw the photo, Albert Speer and Berlin came to mind.

There's the Faith Dome where the old Perpperdine campus used to be.

ETA: There was also a domed building on Ventura east of DeSoto in the Valley, I know there were some posts here about that one.

Cinerama Dome, Griffith Observatory, Parasol Restaurant...just off the top of my head.

When I went to Aviation High School in Redondo Beach in the 1970s, there was a domed structure on top of one of the buildings at TRW Space Park next door. In my senior year everyone on campus was flabbergasted one day to look at that dome and observe it was deflating. We all assumed it was a rigid structure. It had been in place and immobile for years.

I believe that's a misquote. I think the line they are referring to is:

"I just thought that we had something a little special. I guess it was just green corn..."

Wanda is the green corn eater. Henry keeps telling her things like “look at those ears, they're still young - they're green, you can't eat that stuff” and “that stuff is green, look at it” - but Wanda is too drunk to realize/accept the fact, until she tries to eat the corn.

This 1976 article was found among Wes Clark's miscellaneous items (with no additional information or comments)
The article goes into detail about the ranchos but fails to mention the address of the house. (no doubt to give the man living there his privacy)

I hope someone had the forsight to protect this 1843 cottage (I mean, they were aware of its history in 1976..)

Does anyone know if it is still standing? (or where it was when this article was written)

The 1976 article says the tract included "an overseer's house and numerous barns as well as the little wood cottage itself."
I would think the 'house' drawn on the map represents the overseer's house.
Unfortunately, without a photograph there's no way of knowing where, exactly, the shepherd's cottage was located.

I just noticed the 'Scott Tract', next to Rancho Providencia, was owned by D. Burbank.

"Dr. David Burbank's ranch house built in 1867. It stood on what is now the back lot of Warner Brothers studio."
