There is a new development proposed in North Salt Lake, along Orchard Drive, replacing the Winegar's grocery store that recently closed. It looks like a nice, mixed use development that replaces a big vacant building and parking lot, along a busy bus route into the city. A bunch of the citizens are upset about the proposal and don't want it in their neighborhood. A very short-sighted view by the locals. North Salt Lake is a growing gateway city and needs more transit oriented/mixed use developments like this.

It really depends on a case-by-case basis of course. I haven't compared the side-by-side of the old plan with the new one, but it seems to me that the open space in this development is going to be implemented well and could be of great benefit to the community.

For all of the good design principles that that modern urban design strategies have brought us, I think many people undervalue the benefits of open space and greenery. Of course open space still needs to be well-designed and usable, but it's also necessary.

They huge stage that U2 used back in 2009 known as "the claw" will now find it's permanent home at the Utah aquarium. That's actually pretty cool

The steel you see rising is for the new West Valley public safety building. They are still in early foundation stages of the 9 story office tower. Concrete is being poured for the parking garage, which is directly east of the apartment building. With the skybridge connecting the office tower and parking garage I would assume they would need to go up at about the same time.

This is bonkers and I hate it. I'm all for signature architectural features and bizarre art pieces, but this is gaudy, obscenely huge, and completely irrelevant to an aquarium. The dude comparing this to the whale statues in front of one of the other aquariums is way off base. At least whales are relevant to, you know, the ocean.

I don't think the art necessarily has to be so overt and explicit as whales. These things frequently look a lot better once they are installed and time to sink in. I think it will be thought of positively. I think another picture shows a digital screen in the middle. I think that rendering looked better.

I came here to mention that, I actually tried to go there just yesterday (it's about the only fast food place I like anymore). Asies have you heard anything about that spot? Or anyone else? Or did it just happen to go out of business?

If this spot is getting developed, between this and 200 S., Carl's Jr. is really getting the short end of the stick on development.

Also that should technically be in the main SLC development thread.
