It really depends on a case-by-case basis of course. I haven't compared the side-by-side of the old plan with the new one, but it seems to me that the open space in this development is going to be implemented well and could be of great benefit to the community.
For all of the good design principles that that modern urban design strategies have brought us, I think many people undervalue the benefits of open space and greenery. Of course open space still needs to be well-designed and usable, but it's also necessary.
