I would think so given that the COE tower has them.

You're referring to a destination dispatch system. It’s pretty much moving towards being the standard nowadays for higher occupancy buildings. We were the second building to have such a system installed in Edmonton. I would almost guarantee that Stantec will have a similar system

there are still some of us luddites out there who think the nominal/questionable increases in elevator performance are more than outweighed by the loss of occupant and visitor performance/experience/options.

Two towers and mixed-use site to go up at former Blue Chicago site

Hina Alam

The site of the former Blue Chicago restaurant will be grassed over and fenced off until plans are ready to move forward with redevelopment, the property’s owner said Monday.

Considered by many to be an eyesore, the building at 142 Street and Stony Plain Road was demolished Saturday.

The area is surrounded by waves of construction and activity. At the kitty-corner West Block, formerly known as the Glenora Skyline, three residential towers alongside a mix of townhouses and commercial and retail space are scheduled to open in late 2018. And the area also shares space with a planned LRT stop at 142 Street and Stony Plain Road.

David Benjestorf, legal counsel and director of development for the Alldritt Group, said Monday the first step was to turn the former restaurant into a greenspace — complete with a white wooden fence to keep people from dumping garbage on it or using it as a parking lot — even as the company continues conversations with the community.

“We want to make sure that we plan this redevelopment carefully and listen to everybody who might have an interest in the area,” he said. “So we’re going to take some time and get that feedback and then modify any plans that we may have to date and then press forward with those in the rezoning process.”

Yes, You did bring up some drawbacks to the systems that I’d not considered when we did our tour a while back. I will say though, as my last tower had high occupancy floors on the lower and upper floors with relatively low occupancy in the middle floors, the system would have helped balance traffic and increased performance in a building that suffered from very long wait times. The current building has a much more balanced occupancy, so the system might not be as beneficial

From a human nature perspective, people generally don’t want to ride in elevators with other people so you often saw multiple elevators doing the same trip, thus tying up the resource for other users. I do see the system having value by grouping people who are making similar trips together. Maybe an option to call within the cab as well as the destination dispatch may work as a hybrid. Our elevators do have that option but the COP is hidden behind a locked access panel

As someone who has lived in a variety of condos and window/sqft, I can tell you that windows everywhere are not as pleasant as you think for comfort, decorating, practicality and feel of the place.

If you are referring to the 80 storey tower I believe October 2018 is when they plan on starting, according to Wikipedia.

You're right that the section where the glass is going up is the "H-unit"

I believe the south, currently uncladded section is where the bank of elevators will go.

Slightly unfortunate design, but this protruding area serves as a structural component

Also the unit immediately north of "H" will get some serious shading...

^Also not practical in northern climate. You don't see the Scandinavians doing this for good reason.

40-60% window is significant given practicality and climate.

i believe the ashrae standard now referenced in the new canadian building code is 40% maximum glazing but i believe it is still possible to move "outside of that" with sufficient energy modelling demonstrating an equivalency or better in terms of performance when measured against a "standard/proforma" design. i'm not familiar enough with the details to know if that 40% is per elevation or per floor or "per compartment".

^from what I was shown through the math/science, it was overall or average elevation, but there many factors that impact that.

Don't take me as some uneducated fool. I've lived through non-airconditioned apartment hell in Vancouver more than once. Floor-to-ceiling windows without a/c shouldn't be allowed to exist. (And good luck trying to find room for wall art.)

That said, two small windows for the "H" unit that's +/- 1200 sf, AND one of the bedroom has no natural light whatsoever (rear of the unit), you couldn't pay me to live in that unit.
