Your big ideas wanted for Edmonton Exhibition Lands
April 9, 2018
Residents, developers, the business community, organizations, and individual Edmontonians, are invited to submit ideas for the future of the City’s newest urban infill site - the Edmonton Exhibition Lands.
“You don’t need to be a planner or architect to share your thoughts - big ideas for this area have the potential to come from anyone, anywhere,” said Leanne McCarthy, Deputy City Manager, Urban Form and Corporate Strategic Development. “We invite innovative and exciting ideas for this city building opportunity that align with guiding principles developed for this project together with the community and stakeholders. This process of inclusion, shared exploration and imagination is important to Council and Administration. We want to hear ideas that will bring the project’s opportunities to life.”
At over 200 acres, Exhibition Lands encompasses Borden Park, the Expo Centre, a LRT station, access to the river valley, Wayne Gretzky Drive and multiple neighbourhoods.
“We have a significant amount of land in a central location, with tremendous potential to shape local communities and the city for the future. This step is the beginning of a much broader, ongoing conversation about the future of the Exhibition Lands,” said Lyall Brenneis, Manager, Exhibition Lands Project.
Ideas can be submitted at
https://exhibitionlands.edmonton.ca through video, image or written description, as well as through more formal Requests for Expressions of Interest. All ideas submitted will be evaluated based on a wide range of factors, including the project’s guiding principles.
“Each idea is valuable to us and we will commit to collaboration with stakeholders and report back on the full range of input and ideas submitted,” said Brenneis.
A shortlist of viable, innovative ideas that best realize the project’s potential and principles will be explored in public conversations over the coming months.
Opportunities to submit ideas are open until May 5, 2018.
