And greatly increased depth for all angles of the skyline. Consider that because of grade changes, when viewed from the West, 1250 R.-L. appears to be the tallest, Le 1000 from the South, and Tour de la Bourse is very prominent from the East. The only table top-ish angle will be the North viewed from The Belevedere.

Not every day Montreal picks up not 1 but 2 200m towers. The downtown is also infilling with several 120m towers that will compliment these 200m additions.

Montreal's skyline would be much more appealing if they ignored Mount Royal's height. The mountain itself does nothing for Montreal's skyline. Aside from that, two 200m towers is great news for the city.

I have nothing to say about the tower massing but, I'm not liking the podium.

well no, it doesn't but each of these proposals are absolutely stunning and I think any city would be lucky to have them. I'd rather that by the water than to be boxed in by generic glass towers. Way to go Hamilton!

I agree. This could build a great community and urban fabric by the water. Will it have retail and grocery stores in it?

Good to see for Hamilton. I hope there's a bit more height variation, but it's good overall.

Conceptual plans in Winnipeg's Exchange District to replace the now vacant public safety building and civic parkade.

WINNIPEG — Development renderings for the downtown Market Lands site show a vibrant space to reinvigorate the city’s Exchange District.

CentreVenture Development Corporation unveiled urban design framework on Wednesday, following an extensive public consultation process.

Part of the plan calls for a new public market building, better connections to surrounding areas, such as Old Market Square and Chinatown, and a new pedestrian access way running through the site along Market Avenue. Outdoor public spaces will be surrounded by mixed-use developments with places to live, work, and play.

The corporation was tasked in January 2017 of coming up with a development plan for the former Public Safety Building and Civic Parkade.

“This vision and framework is built soundly on peoples’ ideas and aspirations for this important place,” said CentreVenture CEO Angela Mathieson.

“This collaboration will continue as we move forward and we encourage more people, businesses, and organizations to get involved in this historic opportunity to bring even more light and vibrancy to the Exchange District.”

The urban design framework was released at the launch of a three-day project open house at the Red River College Princess Street campus.

CentreVenue has also issued a request for expression of interest from organizations and businesses interested in occupying space at Market Lands. A design competition is being planned for later this spring to further bring ideas for the southern portion of the site.

I don't like tabe top skylines.
Still glad Montreal is getting two new 200m towers though.

Love that plan for Winnipeg....even though the render is as unrealistic as one would imagine.

That looks great. Thanks for posting and keep us updated. It's about time Hamilton took better advantage of their lake front.

Perhaps you don't know the context. This isn't about skyline.
(though I personally feel that much criticism of #HamOnt planners and politicians in that regard is well deserved).

It's about creating a new community on land that was once port-related. Hamilton has been reclaiming its western harbour shoreline for two+ decades now, and it's been a fight, with industry and with the port authority. This is the latest step forward. Height isn't the issue; transforming an industrial site into a vibrant community is. And planners are well aware of the mistakes other cities have made with their waterfront developments, hence the process that is ongoing. Two of those proposals hold a lot of promise IMHO (Gulf Dream and Waterfront Shores).

The context doesn't matter. My post wasn't about this development in Hamilton.

This comes up for the Entertainment District in Toronto all the time. The zoning created a cone shape skyline and forumers complained. The OMB process led to every developer apply for the max building height of 156 metres and forumers complained. Seldom are the densities being built in the Entertainment District questioned as ideal community builders. It's all about more and more height. Shorter buildings need not apply. Skyline sculpturing (oh, those dreaded cone shapes) to avoid table tops is too restrictive. The actual height figure of the table top being created by the tallest structures in a group is irrelevant too. This conversation start because of two 200 metre towers in Montreal!
