It's a pretty ingenious idea and it could even work in Vancouver. It's one of 6 ideas to improve New York's Subway: https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2018/03/6-ideas-for-a-better-new-york-subway/555722/
Lol, a New York lawyer came up with this, typical American ignorance! This is common practice in the UK (and elsewhere I'm sure), called selective door operation. It's not ideal, so is only used where extending platforms is disproportionately expensive.

Blog post from sqwabb about a possible location for a [South] Granville Station on the Broadway Extension.

Nothing official - just some reasoned speculation.

Is TransLink-owned property in 1400 block West Broadway for a SkyTrain station?

Could be, since all four corners of Granville proper are well densified already. Doesn't make sense to locate it halfway to Hemlock, though... and the 2330 block isn't even on Broadway.

The station should be right on the corner. The Chapters/Indigo building can go...

Not until the next Ring of Fire releases, it can't. Department-sized bookstores are scarce enough as it is.

The reference to 2331 Granville was solely for the other reference to the station location on the photo.
2331 Granville itself is irrelevant.

Got it. Like I said though, if that's really the planned station, it's not a very good spot. You'd have to go halfway down the block to get to the 10/14/16 on Granville (meaning a lot of missed transfers), and back up the block to get to the McDonalds or eastbound 9 (meaning a lot of jaywalkers, unless they plan to add a signalled crossing).

Yeah, the north-south seems far
- but probably no worse than bus stops at Brentwood.
For the local 9 they could probably have a stop east of Hemlock, too.

The TransLink site would be sufficient for a station entrance, so no sure what the CoV lands would be used for (too steep for a bus loop?)

So after the new CEO of Translink made that big speech about not making the same mistakes again, we are going to make the same mistakes again with each station having a single entrance?

I would say each station should have 2 entrances (north and south of Broadway) except for the Cambie Station, which should have 3 or 4 entrances.

Bloor/Yonge station in Toronto has 4 entrances that I know of. Google tells us there are 6 . Broadway/Cambie should have at least 4...one in each corner. This is sensible planning, think what it will be like fast forward 20 years. Vancouver deserves better planning.

The M line extension and Canada line connection is THE busiest interchange similar to Bloor/Yonge station and therefore deserves better planning. 2 entrances underserve this important location. IMHO

2 entrances and turn the intersection into a pedestrian scramble at the ABSOLUTE VERY LEAST.

granpa liked to say "it's always cheaper to build it right the first time, even if it takes longer to do it properly"

If the property is owned by Translink lets hope they partner with a developer. Train station on the group and underground level and then multiple office floors above.

Nothing direct, but the wording used on the last open house / survey is any indication, I think it is safe to assume that single entrances are being considered.

(for reference, I am talking about the fact that the city of Vancouver had to directly ask / engage with the public about a "possible" second entrance at the Cambie / Broadway Hub.... Like seriously? That even needs to be asked / debated? They were really toying with the idea of only using the existing Canada Line entrance??????)

Kevin Desmond addressed some of the company's largest developments in the works for Metro Vancouver during a speech on Tuesday morning.

"If things more or less hold to the kind of schedule we're working on now, we're hopeful that the first segment of the Surrey light rail will be open sometime around 2024," he told reporters after the speech.

"And we're hopeful that the Millennium Line subway extension to Arbutus will be open around 2025."

For 8 km of bored tunnel it's not a lot. The Evergreen was like 3 km of tunnel in 3 years but it encountered a year of delays so I guess Vancouver is just giving a bit of leeway time just in case the unexpected occurs (which, like any good Metro Vancouver transit project, will occur).
