Maybe not the exact dates, but news sources have been reporting nearly all month that amazon was expected to visit Atlanta by the end of the month. One of many sources online:

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I took a ton of images. Unfortunately I won't be uploading them all until I'm back in LA in 8 days - driving back from here (via New Orleans, Austin, Phoenix).

From an outsiders point of view I'm blown away by urban Atlanta. Walking from the state capital to the northern tip of midtown is pretty spectacular. The sidewalks are clean, the streets are narrow, interesting architecture is varied and frequent, and perhaps most importantly the hobos are in lower numbers than I've ever seen in a big city.

It's head and shoulders above walkable Los Angeles, and hitting in the big leagues with the big 3 (NYC, Chi, SF). I'd place it in 3rd above SF at the moment, which has become a complete needle-ridden shithole these last 2 years.

1 big question. Why doesn't this incredible downtown have retail? Get Zara, Target, Uniqlo, all the usual suspects in here already.

^ Great photos! Always good to get an outsiders perspective, and you're right that the core of Atlanta has made tremendous progress, but still really lacks decent retail options. Hopefully that will come with more new residents.

Enjoy the road trip back to L.A., and be sure to spend some time in both New Orleans and Austin, both fantastic and fun cities.

I have never heard an outsider compliment Atlanta's urban landscape this much. You are definitely a great observer. Wait just a few years from now, and the urban landscape will be a lot better, and with much more planned retail.

I don't know if you got a chance to see Buckhead as well, that is where all shopping is pretty much concentrated in Atlanta. And great pictures btw

They where here, Thursday and Friday, according to the ajc article I read Friday.

Yes GREAT photos! Thanks for the compliments. Too bad Atlanta got rid of it's really old great buildings (outside of a few blocks downtown). Atlanta's neighborhoods are pretty amazing....Inman Park, Virginia Highlands, Ansley Park, Oakhurst, Decatur etc as well as newer growth hotspots like West Midtown, Old Fourth Ward, Kirkwood, and more. Piedmont Park is beautiful and has great skyline views as well as the Botanical Gardens which must be VERY beautiful right now with the Dogwoods and Azaleas in bloom.

I noticed today it appears the city has installed new LED lighting, like those in old 4th Ward park, around 2 of the reservoirs at the Atlanta waterworks. I gather that are actively working on getting that ready for the public

Looking forward to your photos DTLA. I def miss my hometown but Atlanta has a long way to go to pass cities like Boston, D.C. and Philadelphia in the walkability department but it is making tremendous strides.

This was my exact thought when he praised our city. However, an outsider's perspective is a great reminder that we should always be grateful of what we do have here.

There are people that praise cities for the mere fact that it makes people feel good and that they don’t want to come off as degrading the other’s city. I’m candid when it comes to my own city, but I’ve nothing but positive things to say when talking to someone about their city. But as far as the urban aspect. I do think he took his compliments way too far. Lol. I personally haven’t been to any major city here in the US that comes close to NYC and San Fran.

And even if Atlanta never achieves the level of walkability that Boston, D.C. and Philadelphia have, that's ok too.

What's important is Atlanta's becoming walkable enough that people who desire an urban environment find that it's an attractive living option.

🞵🞵🞵? Very disappointing especially since Lilli has turned out so well. IMO - $400K is not very high to start on a 41 unit building of that caliber...seems odd. Condos in Midtown have been experiencing rising prices for years and are in high demand...so doubt it is a soft market issue.

FYI The $400,000 pricing point for starter units was for Opus No.2 tower - not the Emerson.

the Emerson wasn't really in THAT great of a location as far as access to amenities within walking distance, transit, etc.

Unfortunately, the site is probably more valuable now to flip it to another developer since much of the due diligence of buying out and demolishing the previous low-rise condo project is already out of the way.

I'd rather see JPX focus their developments on established walkable neighborhoods. Like New City, I'd prefer to see concentrated development in a select few neighborhoods the next few years.
