i was under the impression the proposed station entrance at 988 was changed, before construction on the building was started, to become an emergency exit for the mezzanine

that left me thinking the main station entrance would be on Laurel instead

They are listed as city owned properties on the City GIS. They own a bunch of those houses bordered by 5th and 6th between Arbutus and Maple. Some of them seem to be listed as city owned properties since the 1960s..

Yes, there was an article that quoted the developer as saying that TransLink's plans had changed and only an emergency exit would be provided through 988 Broadway.
Laurel makes sense to me too.

That's University Boulevard, currently flanked by a golf course and a few SFH areas (soon to be condos).

As discussed over the last couple of pages, they can either tunnel under the median or build a viaduct on it; in the case of the viaduct, they might have to deal with NIMBYs and stray golfballs. Or, if they want to save the trees, just close off the westbound lanes and put it there - traffic's not that heavy.

Would an elevated Skytrain really suffer from golf balls any more than the existing buses and cars do?

All the golf course's holes run E-W, so I personally don't think it's an issue at all (unless somebody's a REALLY bad shot with a REALLY good arm), but some posters seem to take the idea seriously. It's an interesting problem, at the very least.

To answer the question, golf balls have a parabolic trajectory. The fences could stop a low-angle ball from hitting traffic, but a viaduct might not be safe from a high-angle ball.

Quick question. is the broadway subway stations going to have glass sliding doors, like the MTR stations in HK do? Or is it pretty much going to be the same as the Canada Line Stations (no sliding doors)?

Expo and M Line are running different rolling stock with different dimensions. Mark 1 cars are shorter with 2 doors while the Mark II/III cars are longer with 3 doors. This makes having platform screen doors practically impossible.

As for the Canada Line, they are also out of the question until all the stations are extended to 50m and all the trains are fitted with a C car, because the C car will be shorter.

To elaborate, having different rolling stock isn't a problem as long as the cars are near identical in length and all have the same number of doors. This is the key to allowing flexibility in operations. For example, MTR runs both M-stock and C-stock trains on their Kwun Tong Line. On the West Rail line, MTR runs 7 or 8 car trains depending on time of day.

Recent comment to a March 18th post about Transit Oriented Development on "The Good Neighbour By-Law Port Moody, B.C." Facebook Group:

" I heard an interesting comment recently in regard to adding more trains to the Evergreen Line- as they are often full. The comment was that, although not publicized , the skytrain tunnel cannot accommodate more than one train in either direction in the tunnel, due to design error. This will compromise future ridership expansion. If anyone knows anything definitive please comment."
