To give you some idea, I was doing calls DT a couple weeks ago and found virtually entire buildings that were vacant except for 1 or 2 floors. Got to see some great views of DT from empty offices. One of the weirder things I saw was an entire floor in the taller Suncor tower (righhand side of picture) with nothing but a photocopier graveyard in it.

I don't think people outside Alberta realize how bad it is. This recession has been worse than the one triggered by the NEP in the 80's.

Just depends on the industry one is in, residential construction is still crazy.

It certainly is worrisome, but not quite the situation of the NEP.

Most I've spoken too unanimously say the NEP was much worse. The current situation is progressive. It'll only get worse the longer it continues however, I think it's safe to say it has bottomed out based on the economic outlook. Albertan workers are still overvalued in this new reality so that adjustment will continue.

The one big factor that's missing this time around are massive interest rates.

Not to mention that we are in recovery and the economy is rebounding. That said, Calgary is going to need to reinvent itself to fill a lot of that space. #opportunity.
