It's not NIMBYism to expect people to play by the rules.
I wouldn't assume they didn't play by the rules unless you know more than I do.

Those hours matter only if it exceeds over 50 DB at point of origin. You are allowed to work 24/7 in Ottawa. That webpage is nimbyism. It's obvious they were not jackhammering at 7am on a Saturday and this moron that created this page is just simply a person that loves to complain and get attention which to me is "Nimbyism at it's finest"

Will the work be halted for a while after a worker was injured and taken to hospital?? Because I heard the ministry of labour will investigate the incident.

What possible construction activity would be under 50 db? A normal conversation is 60.

I don't know how you can say "I wouldn't assume..." and then say "It's Obvious..." in the same post. You then make an assumption that the person is a "moron" who "loves to complain". The truth probably lies somewhere between the story each side presents.

Worker injured at Claridge construction site where man died two years ago

Paula McCooey, Ottawa Citizen
Published on: March 23, 2018 | Last Updated: March 23, 2018 7:42 PM EDT

A construction worker was injured at a Claridge construction site Friday afternoon, the same site where a worker died two years ago.

The Ottawa Paramedic Service was called to the Icon condo building at the corner of Preston Street and Carling Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. A spokesperson said the man had been working on the seventh floor and was discovered injured on the fifth floor. He was transported to the hospital for treatment.

On March 23, 2016, 25-year-old surveyor Olivier Bruneau was struck and killed by a falling slab of ice at the same site. Also, a Ministry of Labour inspector had visited the site six weeks before the fatal incident after another worker was struck by falling ice in February 2016. That worker was not reported injured.

Following Bruneau’s death, the ministry laid multiple charges against Claridge Homes, builder of the project, and against its employer, Gatineau subcontractor Bellai Brothers Construction Ltd. under the Occupational Heath and Safety Act.

While police attended the scene Friday afternoon, it is the Ministry of Labour that is investigating the incident.

Claridge construction site shut down after worker falls
Ministry of Labour issues stop work order at Preston Street site following incident Friday

The Ministry of Labour ordered work to stop Friday after a man fell three metres from a concrete forming panel at a Claridge construction site on Preston Street — the same site where a worker died two years ago.

In a news release Monday, the ministry said it issued the order against the injured worker's employer, Bellai Brothers Construction Ltd, after he was rushed to hospital with a head injury. He's since been released, police said Saturday.

A ministry inspector and engineer visited the site following the incident.

Bellai Brothers has complied with an order to ensure construction materials are stacked to prevent tipping, but the stop work order will remain in place until the man's employer installs a fall protection system at the site near Preston Street and Carling Avenue, where the Claridge Icon condominium is currently under construction.

The worker fell when a forming panel tipped, the ministry said. The ministry also demanded documentation from Claridge Homes.

Worker died 2 years ago
Olivier Bruneau, a 24-year-old surveyor, was killed at the same site on March 23, 2016, when he was struck by falling ice while working at the bottom of a 30-metre-deep construction pit.

In that case, the ministry charged developers and supervisors working on the project with a total of eight offences under the Health and Safety Act.

Their trial is scheduled to take place next year.

The Ministry of Labour is continuing to investigate Friday's incident.

I was saying I wouldn't assume to the original poster who was the one that "assumed" so yea, I believe that I am okay to say "assume" and " it's obvious" in the same post unless that violates the SSP rules?

As it should be. Unavoidable incidents like this latest one should have been preventable if the Construction management team took safety seriously considering the death of Olivier Bruneau on this site. As much as I want to see this project rise, worker safety must be first and foremost which doesn't seem to be the case on this project at all.

Thanks for clarifying.

Still, a single 95 DB power tool at 50 metres (which is farther than the closest houses) would still be over 50 db (at least according to this calculator http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/Acoustic/isprob2.html). Until the building is enclosed it would be hard to do much.

Have sales started for the Trinity project?

I checked the project's website and don't see anything there.

Commercial/retail sales have begun but the residential component is rental so there will be no details till a few months out from completion.

I think stop order work has been lifted, because I passed by carling avenue and construction is active after latest work injury but not written in the news that work order has been lifted.

I'm no expert, and not in real estate or development, but wouldn't claridge be hiring a construction firm to manage the project? Wouldn't they not be directly involved in the actual construction?

I could be way off base here, just asking the question. My understanding would be they'd outsource the actual project work to be performed to their specifications with a standard contract.
