Access was maintained over the Cambie trench using Bailey bridges and excavating in sequence
(so an adjacent area was maintained for access while the bridge was installed).
The same could be done at VGH.

I wonder if VGH would ever consider a relocation/renovation of their emergency entrance. It's always seemed like a weird area of the campus to me. Usually the ED is front and centre, just off the main entrance (think Surrey Memorial).

Yeah there's always tons of slow traffic, pedestrians and bicyclists on 10th getting in the way of emergency vehicles. On that note I have had to go to emergency at VGH twice in a taxi because no ambulances were available. People get out of the way for an ambulance but if a taxi is speeding to emergency people don't give a fuck as they think it's just another speeding taxi going where-ever. The Emergency entrance should be on Broadway or 12th in a new building.

I think you are asking a lot. There is a bunch of complex workflow, building layouts and related departments that they to keep close to the emergency room. I don't think it is all that easy to move.

was in the area of 10th/laurel last week, and the sidewalks on 10th are a mess for 'roadway imorovements' -- giving a preview of what it will be like when broadway is dug up for the subway stations.

Just remember this will be the worst part of it. The final leg to UBC won't be nearly as bad.

One of the reasons that Cambie was bad (and it wasn't all that bad) traffic-wise - was because the bridge funnelled into it.

For east-west travel there are several different alternate routes people can take.

If necessary, the City - if so willing - can prohibit parking on 12th Ave and 6th Ave during those construction years.

That is a good point. Oak is 900m west of Cambie and Main is 1km east.

On the other hand Broadway has:

- 6th Ave 300m north
- 4th Ave 450m north
- 12th Ave 300m south
- 16th Ave 700m south

What better way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon than learning about Vancouver’s plan to respond, implement, and guide the future Millennium Line expansion to Arubutus. Admittedly, there are plenty of better things to do, but Hannah and I still made our way down to the former Lulu Lemon Labs at Cambie and Broadway. While the project has been waiting for funding, the city has repeatedly consulted with the public, business groups, and other stakeholders. The result of this is that the guidelines not only respond to previously raised issues, but received clear public support.There is a clear demand from the public for this Skytrain expansion. Even though most of the material is still very high level, over 200 people attended this event. A lot of the principles focus around obvious matters, like support for businesses and minimizing impacts on all modes of commute. Others show that the City has heard the public’s cries

Will Cambie get it's second entrance? It seems likely, read here to learn that and the name of one of the two political parties that had a representative attend the event.

So long as both stations have an underground connection, all should be well.

Regarding the comments, everybody wanting a line built straight to UBC with all those features immediately - especially given the funding situation - must be a little bit frustrating for TransLink right now.

I think TransLink wants that too. The frustrating thing for them is that it doesn't seem to be a priority for governments.

Enough with the studies and surveys and meetings and open houses. We already know all this. Just start construction for god's sakes.

Could they at least rough in the entire tunnel structure first while doing the excavations for first phase of stations?
