...are you kidding? There's a top 5?

It really is. I only wish some cities would be "as generous" when it comes to luring other developers or companies. This kind of vigor and enthusiasm for developments should be universal everywhere and at all times. Speaking on principle here.

No, the Growth Plan is higher level than that and more nuanced. But Urban Growth Centres are required to have a mix of uses. While the East Harbour site isn't in an Urban Growth Centre, it's being developed to resemble one.

I don't know about you guys but I’m going to practice crying for when my city loses. Okay here goes:

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!! This is total BS!! They totally picked the wrong city! That city’s got NOTHIN’ on us! NOTHIN'! [Insert random, unnecessary, passive-aggressive insults toward winning city.] This whole thing was a sham! They knew what city they wanted the whole time and were using this whole phony competition to reap financial incentives or whatever! That has to be it! I mean, that’s obviously the only way that other city could have won out over my city, since obviously my city was the better choice. Obviously! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Actually, you know what? I don’t even care. No really, I don’t. It may have seemed like I really cared this whole time, but I really didn’t. I was just playing it up a little. I’m actually glad we didn’t win. Would’ve caused our cost of living to go up too much. Too many hipsters would have moved here and whatnot. Yep. In fact, I actually feel sorry for that other city that won. [Insert more random, unnecessary, passive-aggressive insults toward winning city.] I’m totally fine with this. I really don’t know why the rest of you are letting your feathers get so ruffled.

Awww, who am I kidding? Waaaaaaaaaaaah! Not fair!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHH!!!!

[clears throat] Alright, I think I’m ready.

That's the best post in this whole thread and sums it all up perfectly.

There's a rumour that Toronto, if it is successful, will greet Amazon with a welcome wagon with free coffee and doughnuts and everything!

Actually, I think the next stage is Top 15 (end of March).

Top 10 announced end of June
Top 5 announced end of July
Top 3 announced end of September
Back to Top 5 end of October

Top 3 again beginning of November. Here's where the *real* competition (angst) begins.
Each of the three finalists need to host Thanksgiving dinner for XX Amazon execs. Best turkey and stuffing will be weighted. Also, most congenial dinner time conversation.

Top 2 starts with Christmas Advent. Each city needs to provide Amazon with gifts for 24 days on the run-up to Christmas.
Christmas morning the winner is announced.

Or not.

If they want to bring HQ2 on line in 2019, I doubt they'll wait until the end of the year to make a decision.

I'm thinking a decision will be made by the Summer (at the latest).

BTW, it was reported today that Amazon may be targeting an Atlanta visit towards the end of March.

This link appears to say Atlanta is out of the running.

Meanwhile Chicago is planning a media site on this site.

78

They are already building small scale Seattle small scale geodesic domes with a stage. If you don't believe me than I can post pics of the site selection stage being build currently.

The real news should not be much longer than a few months from now.

The city to the north is a pretty good backdrop.

https://chicago.curbed.com/2017/10/19/16...s-institute-the-78-development-amazon-hq

Developer Related Midwest will donate an unspecified amount of land within its “The 78” mixed-use mega-project. When redeveloped, the massive vacant parcel is expected to increase Chicago’s 77 recognized neighborhood areas by one and gives the project its numerical name.

Master planned by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the multi-phase project will contain a mixture of residential, commercial, academic, civic, cultural, and recreational spaces. While renderings of the 78 show a number of high-rise buildings, roughly 40 percent of the site will be green or public open space—including a public park in the shape of a crescent representative of the original course of the Chicago River. An unbroken half-mile riverwalk will follow the water’s edge with buildings setback at least 100 feet.

...

It’s currently unclear when the DPI and the greater 78 neighborhood look to break ground along the Chicago River. A timetable for the research facility’s opening is expected to be finalized next year. Amazon is also scheduled to announce the winning bid for HQ2 in 2018.

https://twitter.com/ChicagosMayor/status/921050909626523648/photo/1

At 62 acres, The 78 is one of the larges undeveloped parcels in the entire city.

But alas Jacksonville has a better skyline so who knows, other than us in the know.

While this particular site is not close as the Old Post Office site to commuter rail their is no reason they can not occupy both. The Old Post Office is right next to both of the said 15 commuter lines in walking distance. https://metrarail.com/

Its already being rehabbed at a billions of dollars and if Amazon does not come it will be successful non the less.

I can see them starting out at the old post office and than over the years build to like on the 78.

Those two sites are close enough to merge into a giant campus the old post office being the first pice in the pie. The developers will almost finish that project before Amazon HQ2 will become live.

The one interesting tidbit from bnks rant is that they are building some kind of big ass stage with a dome on that site with an unknown use. Could just be an announcement of the plans for that site, or could be getting ready for Bezos to come announce HQ2...

Either way awesome for Chicago.

ChooseATL, who this person's friend works for is run by an advertising agency for the social media campaign of attracting companies to Atlanta. There is 0% chance anyone at the advertising agency or at ChooseATL would have any insider info.
