Hopefully it can start a new trend for Calgary!

Was in Calgary for Stampede on the weekend. While it was great on the grounds, I was a little disappointed on the number of people on Stephen Ave. While it was busy, it was quieter than it has been Too bad, first Saturday with great weather and it should have been a zoo!

As for the Stampede itself, it was crazy busy on Friday, super fun as always and the Grandstand show was pretty good this year. And stinkin hot!

One last point - I was in Ottawa the previous weekend for Canada day. And while the firework show on the hill was longer (20 minutes), the firework show at Stampede is much more engaging and well put together. IMHO it was much better than the one on the hill; Better choreographed, more variety, more rhythm and overall all the explosions were better integrated.

Of course I would never post this in the Canada thread

Too hot for just wandering on Stephen Ave! Calgarians aren't used to the heat!

Seems about right. It seems that everyone went for a a longer fireworks show on Canada day. However this didn't necesarily lead to quality. Even Calgary's at 30 minutes long wasn't really that great it was just longer.

I don't do fireworks very often, this year I was staying on the Shuswap and we took the boat in to Sicamous and watched from the lake. Pretty good show down there. Didn't time it but I did enjoy the show, had some cool effects with echos off the hills and water as well.

Swimming in the bow

It seems silly that we have a river that for a good part of the summer is clear and refreshing but it really isn't taken advantage of for swimming.
Of course much of it has a current that would make it perhaps even dangerous,
but I've been trying to scope out 'lagoons'. One that came to mind was here:

Now the 'goose — canal' to the right of the earthen bridge of course would be disgusting, but this area seems like it could fit. Any reason why you could think this would be a terrible idea?

Any other innercity swimming holes you can think of on the river?

This area also came to mind, although I'd have to see if it's still shaped this way

I may give it a try today or tomorrow with this 28C forecast. I def wouldn't be trying it in an area not protected from the current.

Just jump in anywhere you can find a spot, the river is great and the water is mostly clean.

The Elbow by Stanley Park is usually better, and friends of mine set up turntables there on the weekends sometimes, much fun.

Sweet. Also looks like there's barriers at Bowness Park to calm things

The new and improved St. Patrick's Island has created what they call "Seasonal Breach". This creates a great area for splashing around in the summer heat.

It's like the meat heads posting this tribe on here are intentionally driving this thread and forum into the toilet. Nobody can be that ignorant that this is for Construction talk.

I'm guessing that the mods threw in the towel long ago, and who can blame them.

I guess I'm one of those meatheads. Anyhow, I'm not posting any more off topic posts on this thread and I hope Suburbia does the same.

Some lady is making threats on social media that she is going to shoot up a public place in Calgary or Cochrane today, probably just a mentally unstable person looking for attention, but better keep your head up out there today people.

We were sent an email from my Step-daughters school today. Got us worried because it was very vague about where/who the threat was directed too. Think the school should be careful on when they send these warnings out.
