Adjusted for inflation, wages for the vast majority haven't budged for over 4 decades, for many, particularly blue collar men, they have
declined. That trend needs to be reversed, not encouraged by suggesting everyone should work for subsistence wages except those in the top 5 or 10%. That economic model is not sustainable if one wants Canada to remain a first world country.
I do agree that the percentage of the city's budget spent on police and fire services is far too high, but what has to be cut is not base wages but unnecessary and wasteful spending on infrastructure, equipment and overtime.
