This is where a good bike share program might start to work really well downtown.

Secure bike parking would be a better focus for those who bring their bikes just for the sole reason that they're scared it might get stolen. I'd love to see these storage towers put in the beyond-the-core stations, I'm sure there's a way to make them cost-recoverable.

Fully agree on all counts.

And I could see this type of bike parking system doing very well at stations all along the west end urban neighborhoods (Bayview to (maybe) Lincoln Fields).

Given all the past discussions here. Just in case anyone still believes there's lots of money to go around for transit projects (like a subway under Montreal or Bank), have a read of the federal budget. $500M less in projected transit spending in 2018/2019. And cuts to projected transit spending for years to come:

https://budget.gc.ca/2018/docs/plan/anx-02-en.html

Table A2.18.

$1.867 in planned transit spending deferred for 7 years.

We are incredibly lucky that Ottawa managed to wring out billions from the feds and Queen's Park when we did. That was a once in a generation opportunity and the stars lined up for us. We will probably not see such a massive investment again in several decades.

I'm just hoping that Stage 2 is not threatened by a potential provincial conservative government.

I just used the same table that you just posted and i get 20 billion in transit spending until 2028 which is alot of money so i have no idea where you get the idea of spending being under 2 billion unless you meant for just Ottawa.

The main driving factor will be how confederation line does when its running especially after stage 2. I can easily see alot of complaints after it opens.

Rideau Station is coming along.

I wonder what those frames are for on the roof. Maybe some digital signage like Yonge-Dundas Square?

That was a joke but this could actually be a good spot for something like that. There wouldn't be many residents facing the station to complain about the light.

I doubt it is. Even Hudak supported Phase 2 back in '14 although it took a flip-flop to get there and there was so much controversy around that I doubt the PCPO is dumb enough to make that mistake again.

Christine Elliott is a lot more likely to win the leadership race. If Ford does.. they may very well lose... again.

According to this tweet, council has voted to allow bikes on trains at all hours.

In my opinion, unless cyclists start forcing their way onto packed trains with their bikes, the idea of allowing bikes at any time is a non-issue.

This will happen.

FYI bikes are allowed on Trillium at all times. Have you ever heard anyone complaining about that?

$20 billion for a country of 35 million over a decade is not much. If we assume all of that goes exclusively to urban areas, Ottawa's share would be $700 million, based on population. And that includes their pledges made for Stage 2, which obviously exceed $700 million already (federal commitment at $1.09 billion).

It's utter fantasy to think Ottawa will get more from the feds over the decade. At best, maybe if for shovel ready projects in a recession (like accelerating BRT construction). Or to do something specific (like PoW).

Trillium line trains have more interior room. I don't know if you saw the mock-up, the Confederation trains are pretty cramped (which is why they're recommending cyclists take seats from three people).

Generally, bikes on Trillium Line trains also take up three (possibly more) seats.
Cyclists don't just stand in the middle of the train.

I don't think anyone has ever suggested there is money for such subway projects. It would just be nice if the City acknowledged transit improvements are also needed in the central urban area.

Good Day...... Belfast MSF spotter report for anybody still interested.....

The main storage shed extension has its roof panels on, and the supports for the walls are going into place. No rails yet.
The bridge-over at the east end of the main storage shed is mostly up, and the staircases are being fitted up.
The foundations for the LMF at the northeast side of the main storage shed are going into place.

The foundations for the temporary storage shed in the southeast corner are in place and seem finished, and the ribs for the shed are being erected.
And the east side of the shed has rails installed. The west side of the shed looks to be just about ready for its rails.
I could not see if any new switches have been installed yet.

FYI. EnJoy!

No, but the Trillium line doesn't have nearly the same ridership that the Confederation line will, nor will it have buses vomiting tens of thousands of passengers onto it.

It would be even nicer if they'd actually do something about the improvements that are needed.

There is literally nothing on either the capital or operational planning horizon that will actually improved transit in the older and denser part of town. There are some changes coming, sure - but change and improvement are not synonyms. Some of the changes that are in the works, or which are being quietly workshopped — OC Transpo, we see what you are doing with the constant parade of buses 6, 7, and 12 which terminate or short at Rideau despite not being planned as Rideau-ending trips — are not improvements.

Trillium line does get full sometimes and i never see cyclists try to board the train then, they always wait for the next one and i do see that happening with confederation line. No cyclist would be dumb enough to bring their bike onto a full train. It hasn't happened with Trillium and it won't happen with Confederation line.

"won't" and "never" are big words, but most people are pretty reasonable most of the time.
