Except the Oilers have to keep Lucic and I'm not sure they could afford to sign Maroon. Don't forget they can always resign him July 1 too. Just don't know if they have the cap room to do so.

How many players coming up on RFA or UFA does Edmonton have? Should be an interesting summer regardless...

According to the excellent CapFriendly, https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/oilers

The Oilers have 15 players under contract for next season and a committed cap hit of $62.3 million. That leaves just under $12.7 million for the remaining 7-9 roster spots. (Plus whatever cap increase comes before next season)

UFAs (on NHL roster or using NHL cap this season)
Mark Fayne
Yohann Auvitu
Ty Rattie
Mike Cammalleri

RFAs (on NHL roster)
Ryan Strome
Anton Slepyshev
Drake Caggiula
Iiro Pakarinen
Matt Benning
Darnell Nurse

Oh nice, someone stepped up after the creator of capgeek passed away, that site was my main resource for this stuff.

Oilers should try to move Strome or someone similar in the offseason, the cap crunch is going to get tight really quick. I had no idea Ty Rattie was an Oiler either, never heard much about that guy after he left junior.

It isn't bad that 3 Canadian teams are in the playoff mix this year. What is bad is that the remaining 4 have been out of it for months.

Vegas/New Jersey cup final and HRR drops by 20%.

That would make for fun times in Edmonton.

The officiating this year is completely embarrassing. That embellishment penalty against Gaudreau last is one of the worst calls I've ever seen. He did literally the exact opposite of embellishing the high stick when he made a conscious decision to continue the play. So what's the rationale? He gets a penalty for the involuntary reflex of grabbing his mouth after taking a stick to the face?

I'd pay to see New Jersey win the cup with Taylor Hall as the MVP.

Maybe Edmonton will get lucky. Could Lucic be Russian and want to go home?

That was some next level BS on Gaudreau last night. The player getting high sticked is in a tough spot, if you don't react to a high stick you run the chance of not getting a call. This of course leads to players snapping their head back to sell a potential penalty (I'm looking at you Nick Bonino!!!) and in last year's playoffs this had a major impact on a series.

Whatever happened to diving fines? Did that go away in the last CBA? Scale the fines to the players salary too. The best way to get these guys to respond is to hit them in the wallet.

I'd like to see them implement fines and even supplemental discipline for trying to sell high stick and do away with the embellishment minor.

I felt bad for Johnny, but you have to keep your wits about you. Shitty reffing doesn't get better because you yell at them.

I think the Flames are going to miss the playoffs, they keep losing to teams they are in the playoff race against and they can't keep the puck out of their net. They currently have 184 GF and 192 GA, and I can't see them making the playoffs if they allow more goals than they score. Mike Smith is what was keeping them in contention and now he is hurt, they are too weak.

Great new re: Seattle season ticket deposits today (25k+ @ $500/$1000 a pop). Our region has another team - I look forward to watching NHL games in Seattle!

Vegas took 48hours to sell 5,000.

I find it funny how Bettman made the jets sell out for 3 years and then the let Vegas and Seattle off woth one year. Then again He is pro American.

^Exactly. The bar is set incredibly high for Canada with the current board of governors.

So, if Kucherov is out for a few more games who else might win the scoring title?

If Hall keeps up his torrid pace, I think he'll push for it

Realistically, Malkin and McDavid are likely to pose the biggest threat to Kooch

How about Barzal? He's now out scoring Tavares and isn't far off the top 10 in league scoring
