I'm in full agreement with craner on this one.

A major outcome of the more human scale buildings leading down to the river has been infusion of more residential in the core - something that was grossly lacking previously with just the "tower walls" previously. And it is not just that more residents live there - the activation of the riverfront through landscaping, park spaces, pathways, and even some services (like the simmons mattress building, but more hopefully on the way) has really created a destination area. All of this, of course, leverages the spectacular island park. Can't wait for movement on Eau Claire, and perhaps 15 years out dreaming of what might come of the Harry Hayes building.

Over time, I'd actually like to see more 6-8 floor tiered buildings north of the river, taking advantage of the sun from the south. I wouldn't want it disturbing the crescent heights view, but would certainly want more intensification. It is a tricky proposition, however.

I couldn't agree more. Damon's been trying, and has easily been our best contributor, yet gets criticised routinely by asshats with nothing better to do. People who have been sarcastic with him or criticising him are the ones who need to leave. The following people should take note. Suburbia, Western Spaghetti, and Grizzly and Corndogger.

I, for one, have seen this member make great strides in their abilities and their willingness to heed sage advice to better their contributions to this forum and in particular, this thread - so much so, that I have dusted off my old Canon digital SLR and have started taking a few pictures. It's ironic you are expecting people to listen to you. The other day you're pumping your boy Suburbia, as the great SSP contributor but then you turn around the next day and criticise the people who are hard on Daemon, even though Suburbia happens to be the one who's done the most complaining. He hasn't done it openly, he's done it with his usual backhanded comments, like the stupid, needless comment disguised as an insult that started an off topic discussion about grade schools.

I'm certainly not taking advice from you.

So you're quite content with the grade school debate and the fact that it could very well drive away a new and quite enthused contributor? Nice to know where your priorities are.

Btw, I never pumped Suburbia as my boy but he has also shown some growth in my opinion and has provided some actual construction updates - can you say the same of yourself or maybe you just really secretly want to be 'my boy'?

This isn't big but I find it interesting/weird. Co-op is building a gas bar and convenience store on the corner of 17 Ave. and 28 St. S.W. It's a rather small lot and there's a 7-11 right next to it to the west. About two blocks to the east there's another gas station (name escapes me at the moment but they also sell Greek food) that just recently reopened after being closed for at least a year for major renovations. Looking at Coop's website I can't find any gas bar/convenience store locations that look anywhere near as small as this site. Is Coop trying to expand their gas station business? If they are what a weird location: small site, accessibility isn't the greatest, and well established competition.
