Appears the rumors will become reality and Westjet is headed for a new livery.
Rolling out a new livery is usually paired with new services/amenities or a re-branding exercise. In AC instance, the mid 90s rebrand was to get away from being government red all over the aircraft, in addition to new livery; executive Class was brought in and First Class was discontinued. The mid 2000s "toothpaste" rebrand was meant to get away from the bankruptcy era, as well the toothpaste fixed the dark green color actually appearing black in most lighting conditions (the airline had a very hard time working with external parties on the dark green colour accent). The latest Raccoon livery is an attempt to capstone the new routes, premium services, and advertise the new brand image of Air Canada across the globe.
In Westjet's instance, I keep hearing rumors about a domestic Business Class type seat rollout together with appropriate service standards. We all ready know the max8s are delivered with ovens and the Dreamliners will have lie-flat pod type Business Class seats.
I'm going out on limb and say that Feb 28th will be rollout of 2X2 domestic Business Class on the max8s. Further, the 767s will get painted in the new livery to promote the Westjet Plus as a domestic business class and international premium economy product category. Westjet's lie-flat seat product on the Dreamliners will be featured as a new class of service.
If Westjet does not update its mainline 737 product offering together with the new livery rollout (e.g. there better be an airplane in the new livery on Feb 28th), the new livery dollars are a huge wasted opportunity. They should have simply waited until the Dreamliners were rolled out to release the new livery.
