If Solo District can afford one, you would think Amazing Brentwood should be able to afford one, after all it is BRENTWOOD ! Keep my fingers crossed.

It's worth noting that water features in California are not exactly "cheap" (both in terms of cost and feasibility) either, largely due to the prevalence of droughts and water shortages there, and the constant water rationing by the various Departments of Water and Power there.

You rack up a lot of fines for watering your garden and front lawn at the wrong time of day in most times of the year there instead of just during parts of the summer like here.

Brentwood Station Blog reports that the existing Coles bookstore will be replaced by a larger Indigo store in the new part of the development:

Amen.

If there's any city in the country that could benefit from more light, be it natural or artificial, it's Vancouver.

Agree. Our climate is awful most of the year, yet gray predominates our skyline and we have water features that have to be turned off four months a year. I have mentioned this to friends and family and they agree. Should have more colour in our skyline and more artficial lighting. Hope this will happen at Brentwood with the inclusion of LED screens.

May I add that while I agree with all this, water features can play a part anyway; à la Kansas City. But primarily I think building materials should be of a lighter color; white, cream, etc.

Water features are indeed great and welcomed in any development. Part of the reason why I purchased at Escala. However, colour is indeed really important given the bleakness of the climate. White, creme, etc. are great options.

I'm pretty sure I posted this before. It's from one of the City of Burnaby people a few years ago:
Quote:
We had an Assistant Director who believed that all buildings should be essentially the same colour, so as to create a more uniform appearance and not compete with each other. He has retired. As a result, we're starting to see more colour in our newer buildings
Midori and Gold House both have coloured glass, and we've been seeing coloured panels go up.

Light colours yes but I'd rather not see white for the same reason I don't like that they're painting Skytrain stations in white - it shows every bit of dirt and looks dingy unless you clean it all the time.

No problem. I agree with you on white getting grubby so easily unless constantly scrubbed. But pastels: cream, pale palette of all colors to give a more 'upbeat' feeling overall.

I came across some interesting pictures of the inside of Amazing Brentwood under construction like completed parkade levels, etc.

Here is the link
All pictures are the courtesy of Vancouver Regional Construction Association.

Enjoy

Thanks for the link! Great find!

BTW, does anyone else think that the ceiling height of the parkade is a little on the low side? I feel claustrophobic just looking at the photo!

I read with interest how North FalseCreek condo developments could potentially ruin our north shore mountain views. But if you are willing to move further east, the views of the north shore mountains from some of the Brentwood towers is pretty well preserved. I was at QE park lookout the other day, Brentwood tower one is so distinct. I really envy those who bought tower one NorthWest or North facing units. Not only that they have 2 cemeteries next to them to preserve their view forever. ( please note: I am not being sarcastic). Dont need to squeeze to downtown West end for the view... I cant afford it any how

I found it quite amusing the story on Global News last night about the view cones. Every single person interviewed was in opposition of tall buildings.. talk about a well rounded news story eh. People love to whine. We live in a growing city where we have to build upwards.. if folks want unobstructed mountain views then they should go for a walk to Coal Harbour, Stanley Park, etc, and stop complaining about their lost views that they dont own.

Personally I prefer a south facing unit as I want a lot of daytime sunlight. Hell if I want to see mountains all I need to do it ride the Skytrain and look out the windows. I don't get the big deal of needing to see them from my living room window 24/7.

I don't think viewcones are meant to protect the view sights of those in condos, but for those driving or in a city park. If viewcones are meant to protect views of condo owners, Brentwood Town Centre would never have existed because it would "spoil" the view of the mountains for those south of it or at Metrotown. Good thing Burnaby doesn't have viewcones, or Metrotown and Edmonds condos would not have existed too because those at South Burnaby would complain that their precious mountain views are blocked.

It is a solely "Made in Vancouver" stupidity.
