Metropolis switching to rental is the result of a number of factors, mainly China reeling back overseas investment in real estate. Now that this is being released and advertised to local people, it will fill up much quicker. They can switch to condo later.
All in all it’s a good sign!!! More housing going to supply people who will actually live here until they sell the project and someone later comes in and switches it back to condo.
Yeah, rentals mean people will be living in the building rather than a ghost town investment building used to park oversees money. That part of it is a win. I just hope they can complete it.

The buildings are practically complete. If they can't complete it, someone will buy the project for a discount and rent or sell the units. L.A. still is in the midst of an affordable housing shortage. If the units are marked down so more can afford them that would be a good thing.
THIS is where its at, and its very recent 8K footage of dtla and more, total eye candy: (maximize your screen size & hope your internet is up to the stream!)
Today has been very good to LA. Falcon Heavy, for the most part a success (the central core didn’t make it), but more importantly the LA Times is back to local control. Tronc (stupidest name) sold LA Times and SD Union Tribune to Lakers fan, Patrick Soon-Shiong. No longer under incompetent Chicago control, which is not to say Shiong will do a good job, but nothing could be worse than what Tronc has done to to the once great paper.

Lets hope Soon-Shiong is more Jeff Bezos than Joe Ricketts.

Now that Metropolis, Oceanwide, ONNI 50 story etc. are topped out or almost so, what are the skyscraper projects that are now funded and under or about to start construction this year? Hope the boom continues, but the "risk off" mode seems to be in vogue on Wall Street and with overseas (esp. Chinese) funding.

Musk is our Edison or Tesla. That Tesla roadster in space was wild. Hawthorne loves SpaceX. Not so fond of the flame thrower idea though.
Good question. I'm assuming the LA Times building comes along with the deal. As far as anyone knows, a deal with AON was only proposed and never hashed out.

The latimes building was sold a couple years ago to Onni
Great photos! So, I noticed the other day that they replaced the standard huge ad print outs on Marriott/Ritz building facing LA Live with a huge screen. Is this true, or am I thinking wrong? I really hope they fill in some perfect spots on the Staples Center with screens as well. Really make the area feel alive!
