As I pointed out earlier it isn't tailings ponds or ski resorts that are killing critically endangered woodland caribou it's cutlines and logging roads. We have to cull wolves to help maintain the meager population that exists.
It's not ignorance. I didn't say there weren't repercussions from our activity and from the time needed for reclamation to take hold. It's just downright laughable to compare to Brazil's rainforest which are permanently being destroyed for population needs. Brazil is adding more people than the city of Calgary every year.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised to hear Alberta is behind other provinces

Yeah, most Montrealer's are not at all fond of the appearance of that super hospital.

I didn't mean it as a slight to Toronto (heck, I have lived in London, ON, for 13 years now); I sense a bit of wounded pride in your remark.

And the winner for laziest rendering of an ugly development goes to....

The Grid! A controversial condo tower being proposed for an industrial area of Inglewood east of DT Calgary (already mentioned a few pages back).

Besides the MS Paint quality of it and the simply horrid looking townhouses the angle is an especially poor choice. Considering the community association is saying it's too tall for the area you'd think they would show it in context with the DT skyline just behind it. Instead they use the angle to completely blot out the entire skyline behind what appears to be the biggest and tallest building outside the Rocky mountains.

^I don't know. I think Ken King's original renders of the Calgary Next project were nominated too. I demand a recount!

Yes, who can forget Ken King's legendary sales pitch to Calgarians of the greatest building to ever be constructed in our city's history!

Nope, this is for real. Here is the link to the application on the Ottawa website:
https://ottawa.ca/en/chateau-laurier-addition

They used the same architectural firm as the first horrible design and they managed to top themselves by proposing to erect a blue wall in front of the national landmark.

Please tell me the city turns it down. I seem to recall the last proposal wasn’t good but not nearly this bad.

sure. every time I read their damned flight magazine, they crow about being the "Best" airline in North America.

As if that is really saying much. Better than United, or Delta....maybe. That's like saying Doug Ford is better than Rob Ford. When you are at the bottom of the barrel, you really ain't better than anyone.

It's impressive in its lack of context sensitivity. I mean, you'd have to try to make it that terrible. Really try. And then try some more.

Calin Rovinescu (CEO of Hot-Air Canada) 2015 compensation: $7,817,369

How do you earn that salary? By raising corporate profits, naturally, through incredible customer service!!

Yep. Could they not have made some effort, any effort at all really, to integrate it better with the chateau? This looks like a completely separate building they already designed separately that they lazily decided to plop down next to the existing building. I'm sometimes in favour of new architectural additions that contrast the old like the Reichstag in Germany or the ROM in Toronto but this doesn't achieve that. It's like a boxy, glass office building built on top of a beautifully ornate castle. Just awful.
