Parking in Yaletown about to get scarce:

http://www.vancourier.com/news/parking-w...ty-looks-at-taking-away-spots-1.23166202

I'm not sure what to think about this. Those areas have always been way too crowded. I would think however, that removing the back-in only angle spots in the narrow streets there would be enough, leaving the parallel meter parking. Maybe that's what they are doing, it's not clear from this article.

Lots of complaining, but if people died from a fire that was inaccessible to firetrucks, I'm sure we'd be hearing the opposite.

Someone should build a parkade. Or is that uneconomical?

I'm not sure what to think about this.

No question that Hamilton & Mainland are a nightmare to get through most nights due to people parking, being dropped off in taxis, etc.

The usage rates for those parking stalls are extremely high - 92-97%.

However I wonder how much we should continue to unabashedly support parking, however well used it is. This area of Yaletown is literally at the Skytrain Station, and it is a very walkable area.

Does anyone have an idea of how convenient/available underground parking is there?

Isn't there a public parkade just north of Nelson Street, under that small park? I have never been inside it to know large or busy it is. I can't thinn of other parkades right next door.

Yes there is. I don't know how expensive or busy it is on any given day.

Well Yaletown shopper and diner demographics might not ride the Skytrain. I guess you can just say who cares.

I don't know how that equals 100 spaces lost, it's only 4 blocks, one side of the street, if I'm counting right.

... and there's also some public parking under the plaza where the Canada Line station is located - it uses the same elevator.
... and there's some public parking at the Waterworks condo - and on top of the SAP Building.

well 1 block, the angle parking fits about 25 spots, so 4x25 = 100. (i counted 1 block and there were 26 spots of angle parking)

One of the articles said some of the lots are getting more spots reserved for monthly users so you would actually need to get the figures before saying those are alternatives.

Interesting - from Changing City Updates:

Proposed 65 room addition to the
YWCA Residence on Beatty St.

https://changingcitybook.com/2018/02/06/733-beatty-street/

That block will be one solid mass of hotel rooms (except for a small office block on Cambie)

Its actually a real shame that Shangri-La is tallest and most prominent in Downtown.

Westbank is delivering so many superior towers these days - Butterfly sitting on that site would be magic.

It doesn't sit on a higher elevation. Should be pretty prominent

That's fair, I imagine Butterfly is at a higher topographical elevation further South on Burrard.

But it will be Shangrila and Trump for long, long time as the 2 most prominent towers.

Oops, That was a typo. I meant To say it DOES sit on a higher elevation. So it could be more prominent than shangrila or trump
