Ditto. I regret that he was banished from this forum... we were lucky to have him around.

While Winnipeg isn't quite in the same boat yet, Regina has a gigantic hole and a major road with a rush-hour lane missing for a quarter block. A recipe for issues especially when it's used by six bus routes.
I don't think it's a question of authority. Winnipeg has been hosed by big-talking developers quite a few times over the years... the city is just getting more cautious in general in terms of what it's willing to let slide.

Although that said, I'm not sure why Regina has a big hole in the ground while nothing has really changed on Fortress' site in Winnipeg. I guess Fortress never got that point where they felt like they stood to gain by being able to demonstrate some form of tangible progress here. The site was a surface parking lot, and a surface parking lot it remains.

Bigger question, what becomes of the land fortress owns and paid $9M for? Nothing.. Nothing will come of it. How long do they hold onto it before taking a loos and selling.

Good question. I was wondering the same thing. Perhaps the loss will be of use to them somehow... or maybe it's just built into their overhead? It's a weird situation.

Too bad Canada doesn't take white collar crime seriously. A million dollar fine is a joke, as evidenced by these guys starting this scam AFTER being sanctioned and fined for the scam they were running before. Lock these scumbags up.
Well, we let murderers walk after a couple years, so crime all around is too soft

I guess the next phase of the conversation is what happens next to the St. Regis? I hope some careful consideration is given instead of just rushing with the bulldozers to knock it down and turn it into a parking lot.
I know the ownership group of The Pint. I'll rally them to buy the St. Regis and convert it into a Crash Hotel. It's honestly perfect for it.

The delay is probably due to Fortress looking to dump the land, but cannot find a buyer willing to pay close to the $9 million Fortress paid. Is Edenshaw any more reputable? They have a few proposed projects, but not much actually built.

Couldn't disagree more. He was negative, disruptive, toxic and polarizing. There was a reason why he was banned several times.

You probably miss all the rubber chicken dinners you used to attend to pitch syndicated mortgages to hordes of clueless investors on projects that failed or crept to eternity.

Who believes this guy? The brokerage you were connected (BDMC formerly Centro) with had their licence revoked on Friday along with action against the other brokerages (FDS,FMP,FFM) that you all circle jerked with....and it's somehow coincidental that you magically became an independent consultant a month ago?

You're full of $hit.

Apparently you "missed" sweeping regulatory sanctions against the wholesalers of the product your former bosses created. Oh, and your boss Vince had his license revoked.

But I don't think you actually missed any of that. Pi is right. The timing of your departure is way too convenient.

I guess you didn't see the red flags when you "did due diligence" on your bosses before joining the team, as you stated in another forum: https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/thread...90#post-895450

You also stated that you personally invested in some projects. Perhaps you could tell us which ones those were and how you chose those them? Have you gotten your money back yet? https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/thread...07#post-949320

I do hope your new consulting gig pays well. Do be sure to set money aside for a legal defense fund. Litigation is costly...and you don't have your bosses deep pockets backing you this time.

Winnipeg’s hope in the ground will be the st Regis.

^ Given that the Skycity mirage is evaporating fast, wouldn't it be time to put the brakes on any schemes that involve demolishing the St. Regis?

Maybe the St. Regis will be profitable even as a surface parking lot.

I still say that we should be calling it AtGradeCity.

As opposed to Regina's Capital Pit.

The LAST thing Centre Venture as holder of the mortgage needs to do now is demolish the historic St Regis and apply for a "temporary gravel parking lot" on the site. I think the Bell Hotel Model would work very well with the building.
Everyone is jumping up and down to save the derelict St Charles that is privately owned yet Centre Venture owned St Regis is fair game? I don't get it...

Why doesn't the city historically list it the same way as a multitude of similar structures in the area are?

Close down the beverage room? Yes! Tear down another heritage building for a parkade? No..

Why not hold another vinnette the way they did for Market Lands or Graham Avenue Mall. And please don't use the excuse the building is too far gone. its in the SHED and should be entitled to the same grants and benifits as the other recipients.

There is an opportunity here and an urban 2018 solution is possible...

It's not long ago the Royal Bank Building was in a similar dire spot and look at it now!

Does anyone think King at Alexander looks better with a crappy vacant grass and garbage strewn lot or with the old Shanghai Restaurant that was a fixture on the corner.

I think Ben was joking..

I thought the Pint was owned by people involved with Fortress? Not sure where I got that idea.
