Toronto grew away from the lake because that's where industry was located and the Don Valley made Eastern growth prohibitive.
Yes, the original Yonge-University line was built based on urban development, density and congestion patterns 60 years ago, but Toronto never invested in additional lines downtown despite the need, which directed growth north. If the Downtown Relief Line was built 20 years ago, Toronto would look very different today.

Can someone tell me, on the building in the centre with the criss-cross white stripes, are those stripes fully illuminated LED strips or just reflective white material? Just curious. Thx
THIS is awesome! I can definitely see the early Chicago influences here. Really cool that Canada has buildings like this. I can't think of any quite like it in other Canadian cities I've been to.
