Many of the Western Canadian chains look pretty bad. I've never been to Humpty's but it looks like it might rival Smitty's for being the worst.

The menu selection is horrible and same with logo, interior and exterior decor. Headquarters is in surprise surprise....Calgary!

I've mixed up words or said the wrong ones when speaking French more than a few times.

I was at a full-serve gas station in Amos, QC and the employee who was pumping gas told me that the pump I was at was out of service. But he said the one behind was working so I told him I would back up to the other pump. So I told him "Oui, je peux renverser." He gave me a funny look at first but wanted to be nice and didn't laugh and politely said "reculer" to me. I realized my mistake and also what I said and we both laughed.

I guess I got mixed up because renverser in French is so close to reverse in English. "Renverser" has a few different meanings but basically what I told the guy is "yes, I will flip my car over." Reculer = to back up

Yes Humpty’s is horrible. A much shittier Deny’s or equivalent Smitty’s. Basically anything that ends with a “y’s” is a shithole. Ricky’s is another.

True. I think Humpty’s has colouring menus. That is usually a sign. I realize it’s a family restaurant but it always seems to be the ones with colouring menus that suck the most.

A guy I knew once mustered all his courage and walked up to a chip wagon in Hull and asked the older lady there for "une grosse putain" (instead of a "grosse poutine"). She just laughed at being asked for a "big whore"...

Wendy's has a pretty limited footprint in Quebec, but Tim Hortons is all over the place.

Your pronunciation for Tim Hortons is pretty close to what I usually hear, though "Tim" often sounds like "tzim".

Another good one is the Burger King Whopper which in Quebec is pronounced "wooper". I guess people quickly see the double PP and mistakenly think that makes an OO sound instead of an O sound.

I'm from the Greater Montréal, So I'm more pronouncing it the English way.

I have to share a funny language anecdote. I used to go out with a girl that came from Venezuela. She learned French here. A lot of people that aren't francophone have a hard time with the sound "ou" (like in igloo).

Anyways, it was one of her first job in Montreal and she was working at a store that sold clothes. A lady was trying a scarf on her head and my friend said: "Vous pouvez aussi le mettre dans le cul (cou)" ("you can also put it up your ass").

She mentionned that both the client and her boss had the most OMG reaction and she couldn't understand what happened.

I remember some old timers said "Hambourgeois" instead of "Hambeurrgeur". Nobody said "Pommes de Terre Frites"...it was always "Une grosse patate" or "des frites medium" (the grammatically appropriate "moyenne" was not that commonly used). Even sometimes people would say "Une cafe Large". Very rarely would people say "Lait Frappe", rather "Une Milkshake..." was the way.

But they would say "MacPoulet" and "McCroquettes"
