So, Moncton can still claim that more passengers use our terminal than both other major airports in the province combined, but just barely. Given the growth at YFC, they might not be able to make this claim again in the future.......
BGR volume numbers for comparison

Indeed, there are more than 100,000 fewer PAX through Bangor International than through Romeo LeBlanc in Moncton.

Listening to social media, you get the impression that there are droves of western New Bruswickers storming the border on their way to BGR in order to get cheap flights elsewhere in the USA. Obviously this isn't the case. I wonder what the percentage of overall passenger numbers through the BIA that are from Canada???

Bangor is serves by American, United, Delta & Allegiant.

Destinations include:
- New York
- Philadelphia
- Washington
- Charlotte
- Atlanta
- Houston
- Chicago
- St Petersburg
- Orlando
- Fort Lauderdale

Why the frig is there a flight from Bangor to Houston (or to Charlotte for that matter)???

BGR doesn't have non stop service to IAH. The airport's website simply mentions it as a top destination. (I'm thinking oil workers, kind of like Maritimers going to Alberta)

CLT service started last summer. It's Saturday only service for 2 1/2 months in the summer. Not a big deal. Not hard to fill up a 1x weekly CRJ7 going to a massive AA hub.

Living on PEI and being from NB, I know a few families of 4 or 5 who always went to BANGOR to go to Florida. when I asked why, a. cheaper, (for a big family) B. DIREC T FLIGHTS to where they were gong. one friend said you had to watch seat sales constantly, but it was worth it for his family. I wonder if this is still true..

Just to complete the discussion regarding Maine airports, I looked up the Portland Jetport.

In 2016, it served 1,785,000 PAX, a little less than half the volume of YHZ and nearly 3x the volume of YQM.

Curiously, there are no flight connections to Boston from either Portland or Bangor. Portland is only a two hour drive from Boston, so that is understandable, but Bangor is a full four hour drive. I find the lack of flight connections to the regional metropole very surprising........

I would say CDG ahead of AMS. But both make sense, considering the rumors of WS wanting to join Skyteam by 2020.

The announcement isn’t until tomorrow. Is your post speculation or is this insider information?

Ok sorry. I kind of like the anticipation and excitement leading up to a major announcement like that.

Does this mean it’s true that the YYT-LGW flight will go away?

No worries, and yes Westjet has dropped YYT-LGW.

Maybe Westjet will surprise us with more than one new route announcement tomorrow out of YHZ.

The distance between PWM and BGR is only a couple hours and I feel the advantage that these two airport have is that they have jet service. This year when i head down to Myrtle Beach i will depart from Portland cause they have a Non-Stop flight to Atlanta. But the numbers for Portland are due to the city is the economic center of Maine.

And as far as Westjet I feel that they have left New Brunswick out of the loop in favor of Stanfield international. But i guess that Halifax is the maritime economic center. But can't wait to see what Westjet will announce tomorrow.

Here you go.

On top of daily non-stop YHZ - LGW we are getting daily non-stop YHZ - CDG on Westjet.

$199 one-way in June, September and October for both London and Paris.

Wow, that seems extremely affordable for European flights.

Also, re. passengers going to Bangor from NB for cheaper flights: when I went to Seattle this past summer, flying out of Bangor was just as expensive on any airline as flying out of Saint John, Fredericton, or Moncton on Air Canada. I ended up going via Halifax on Westjet because it was literally half the price, so even with gas and parking costs to drive down from Saint John, I still came out ahead. If Bangor is handling fewer NB passengers, I would assume this price parity is the reason. No reason to fly out of the U.S. when the Atlantic Canadian airports are the same price or even cheaper.

It is but it will be short term. Airlines always have incredible initial sales on new routes.
