I don't know...I think 201 is one of the nicest towers in Canada. Or, at least, it ranks anyway. I never thought much of what sat on the site prior to its construction so I'd happily take 201 over that.

The challenge with centralized medical clinics like Medical Arts, Body Building, Winnipeg Clinic or Manitoba Clinic is they used to trade heavily on offices for general practice and family medicine. Those have long left central locations for the suburbs locating closer to their patients and where the doctors live allowing them to pay less rent in the process. Specialists have even started to follow that same model, moving away from a central location.

Building an expensive new building without a government handout like Manitoba Clinic received means the lease rates are going to truly be too high to attract the critical mass that is needed.

I noticed a building structure studded in the ball park in the east section "A" bleacher seats the other day. Any idea if there's some sort of re-configuration going on there? It's hard to make any sense of it driving by along Waterfront but thought someone may know.

Something is definitely happening with sections A and B at the ballpark as you can tell by the new seating map. I am hoping for standing room with ledges like the Pilsner Zone at Mosiac Stadium with some craft beer in that area like at CHS Field in St. Paul.

They really need to improve the marketing and get 20-30 year olds at the park instead of children and seniors. St. Paul averages 8,000 per game and its's all young people looking to be seen at the new digs. I hope this is a step in the right direction.

Had not seen that - I can confirm I've heard whisperings of local breweries being contacted by the park for a local beer bar type thing - that will be near sections A and B. I have no idea if this includes renovations or anything new, but there will be something with rotating local breweries on tap (that is, one brewery with 2 or 3 beers on tap for 2 weeks, another the next 2 weeks, etc)

That would be awesome if they made a dedicated area to this as the map looks like (my understanding of it was it was just a station set up). That section is almost always empty / sparsely used with exception for the most packed games. Nice to see support for local beer from one of the teams and it should help alleviate pressure on the other bars around the concourse.

Seems weird to put a beer bar by the family area... Would make more sense by the patio deck & berm.

If it's anything like this new building on Corydon, great addition – plus a second story. Looks like lots of glass. Is it at the sidewalk with parking behind?

I like it. It takes Academy one more small step in the direction of being a legitimate neighborhood high street.

Academy has so much potential, and is pretty good already, but the big separation between the east and west retail clusters really hurts it and is holding it back from being amazing. Also.. it really needs more trees and a better sidewalk experience. Not sure how to pull that off though.

Academy needs 20 more of these. I like that it looks like a commercial building and not a house.

And more frequent transit access.

People shouldn't have to wait ~40 mins. for a 20 Watt bus at night on Academy Rd.

Double edged sword. No one rides it because the service is poor. The service is poor due to low ridership.

Transit is a system, so even improving service on the routes where the demand is already over capacity, of which there are many, will improve ridership on other routes as well, albeit marginally.

More obviously, allowing for increased density along commercial corridors like Academy would help induce demand as well, and in theory service should follow.

Lower than expected ridership for the population of this city is due to poor service. Many routes have high ridership and probably break even or even turn a small profit but remain underserved.

Despite being more affluent than Winnipeg and with better road infrastructure, both Calgary and Edmonton have triple Winnipeg's annual ridership. They also have LRT systems. Wherever LRT systems are introduced ridership increases dramatically.

I’m not defending Winnipeg transit but per capita transit ridership isn’t all that different between Calgary Edmonton and Winnipeg.

Here are the commuter statistics.
http://www.statcan.gc.ca/daily-quotidien/171129/dq171129c-eng.htm

Total annual riders are about double, but so are their populations.

Totally agree. The layout, density and location of River Heights makes it prime for transit use. But two busses an hour makes it incredibly inconvenient. Ditch bus service to the new suburbs and focus on areas where transit is more likely to be used.

This is definitely what should happen, unfortunately lots off misguided people with good intentions rallied against Winnipeg transit doing exactly that, I guess because they have developed a Pavlovian response to go march in the streets any time they hear "service cuts" and they didn't seem to understand that cutting out some suburban routes with low-ridership would allow transit to provide better service to those people who actually need it. It's truly sad how incompetent political movements on both sides of the spectrum seem to be in this province.
