Did they really demolish the former CIBC building in Edmonton in the first photo? If so, I'm surprised there wasn't some kind of attempt of facadomy or some outrage (maybe there was?).

It still stands.

The Marriott is one of my favorite Montreal towers.

Really? There are a ton of buildings that look like that here and I pretty much hate all of them lol. The Marriott does have the rounded windows though, definitely makes it a bit less ugly...

The windows are why I love it.

Oh, that's good. It's hard to tell because of the perspective of the photos....I wish they employed the same perspective, but it's an alright set nonetheless.

Another couple of moths Stantec may sneak into that old school photo.

The shot from JW is from about 9 stories below the current top.

I just noticed the Marriott in Montreal isn't the same on all four faces of the tower...interesting. The tower's nice, I gotta wonder if the podium is that street focused or just detrimental to the street level experience.

Love it or hate it, I find it quite distinctive and unique. I would not mistake it for any other building that I know of, yet you're saying there are ton of similar buildings in Calgary? I'm intrigued.

The Marriott is absolutely unique and fantastic in my book. It could use a little scrub though.

Little known fact: it was originally built as a CP railway hotel for expo '67. It must have been the or one of the last railway hotels built in Canada.

I wish it was as white and pristine as new...

I'd be curious to see the Calgary equivalent. I looked at the diagram and couldn't find it.

It's the bare unitized concrete panels that give it the look I'm referring to. I think this one is a much nicer example than what is in this city (Google Marriott Calgary, Encana Place, Palliser Tower), but they all use the same prefab sandwich panel design.

Having googled the Montreal Marriott, it definitely looks better than it did in that picture I quoted.

Agreed. As nice as that photo was, it really made the Marriott look monochrome and bland, and generally unappealing, now that I look at it again.

Raw concrete doesn't look good in dreary weather, I find it to be quite bleak at times actually. I've always wondered why buildings like are never painted (aside from the long term maintenance obviously).

Montreal (aka Concrete-ville) actually looks quite dreary in rainy weather in general. I find glass and red brick to look best in rain, but yeah concrete looks really sad.
