Interesting that they chose three DC-area locations and both New York and Newark in lieu of adding a few extra metros. I understand that each are in different states and would therefore come with different incentive packages and tax scenarios, but it seems like it would've been easier to narrow down less desirable locations within the same metro area.

Also, Apple has announced a search for a second headquarters, but it's not expected to be as public of a selection process.

Zero chance of it going to Boston. The initial jobs at the new campus will be technical support jobs with an average pay < $20.00 an hour. No way it will be in any of the expensive NE cities.

I think Atlanta, Raleigh, Charlotte and Nashville are the best prospects for the Apple project.

If they chose Atlanta, I could see them considering PCM Phase II, the development at the GA Power site in O4W or Atlantic Yards.

I heard a interesting rumor yesterday. Given the volatility on the Korean Peninsula, it appears Samsung maybe looking to move their World HQ to North America and Atlanta is on the shortlist. Samsung is the 15th largest company in the world.

Smaller isn't always cheaper. Austin, Nashville and Raleigh have a higher cost of living than Atlanta.

Strictly for time zone reasons, I think Asian companies would choose the west coast just like European companies choose the east coast. Try having a conference call with Korea anywhere on the east coast. You would be working at 9pm at night just to overlap with part of their morning. Much easier in California

Toyota moved to Dallas. Nissan moved to Nashville. Subaru and Sony are based in NJ. So I am not sure time zones are an overarching criteria with respect to Asian based companies.

I agree, I would look for Apple and a lot of the big tech companies to look toward the mid tier cities to be moving jobs like this to. Maybe even more of their routine non creative jobs. Theres no point in having your accountants in one of the most expensive areas in the country they can barley afford. Also, the way I read their announcement was they are creating 20k jobs in the US and not all of these will be at the new HQ.

I hope ATL lands Amazon, and Cook gifts the Apple campus to his home state in Birmingham.

You're right, those are regional headquarters. The chance of Samsung packing up and leaving South Korea is about zero. They also just built a new regional headquarters campus in California, so I wouldn't count on them leaving that either.
