Along with this across the Canal they have begun work for that large hotel/condo project on the north side of camelback. Between this, the Fashion square expansion (which has been approved) and DECO there isn't a lot of empty space left in that area of Scottsdale.
I have another question though. WHY ISNT DECO BUILDING DOWNTOWN!!!
Central Scottsdale is on fire. There are multiple developments happening along Scottsdale Rd North of McDowell. I was trying to get a breakdown together of everything going on, but I haven't had a chance.
The multi-family development next to Olive Garden is going well and there are 3 signs down the block advertising more multi-story developments.
The developments on both sides of McDowell are moving along quickly.
There were a couple of other large developments in the works, but I can't remember them off-hand. I will try to get us some updates over the weekend as I will be in Central Scottsdale most of Saturday.
The Scottsdale City Council has approved plans by mall owner Macerich Co. (NYSE: MAC) for planned 150-story towers next to Scottsdale Fashion Square.
The council approved a rezoning and development plans from Macerich to allow for mixed-use towers on the mall property. That includes multifamily components as well as commercial uses such as offices and hotels.
There were some neighbors and Scottsdale residents opposed to the development plans but the council approved the redevelopment plans 5-2.

If only it would be that easy to get approval for projects.
And they wouldn't even let Frank Lloyd Wright's spire be built his designed 140ft, limited it to 100 because "nothing in this city can be taller than 100ft"

No, not in Scottsdale, but Burj Kalifa is in Dubai. They do have a supertall towers.

The popular local brewery wrote on Facebook that Papago Plaza, the Scottsdale shopping center it has called home since 2001, is facing “upcoming demolition…for redevelopment.”
This renovation has been in the works for awhile, glad that it's finally happening. Truly a hideous shopping center on a prime corner.

According to the FAA coordinates, the project is just another suburban hotel proposed in the DC Ranch development in North Scottsdale. It's a proposed 4-story Marriott Fairfield Inn Hotel near the SEC of Pima Road and Legacy Blvd in the DC Ranch Crossing development, just north of the Loop 101.
The 'tower' element of the hotel goes up to 64 feet, and I believe the 70 feet the FAA lists provides some height wiggle room for construction. The area is near the Scottsdale Airport flight path, which is why it requires FAA consideration before the project moves into the public hearing/entitlement phase.
A growing chain of family-oriented hotels is building a location near Scottsdale in the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community’s Talking Stick Entertainment District that will feature an indoor water park attraction.
The 18th Great Wolf Lodge location is expected to cost more than $100 million to build and should open in the second half of 2019. Great Wolf Resorts, Inc. and the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community will hold a groundbreaking ceremony later this week. The first renderings of the project are expected to be revealed then.
Indoor? Why well, whatever never heard of a "family friendly resort" outside of Disney but with it being in close proximity to the Cassino and Old town plus spring training I can see what they are thinking.
