agreed I never seen any property sell for that much over Provincial Assesment. I've seen properties sell for at the very most 1-2% above provincial assesment, an that is listed at 1,654,900$ for this property. So I don't see it going for more then half what they are asking at 2,000,000$.

What is going on at the old relish on Corbett center ? I went to weight watchers last week and noticed a huge container sitting outside and looked like some work was going on in there. I would have stopped to ask for it was freezing cold last Saturday

That entire building is being renovated (sold last month) but I’m not sure about Relish specifically.

Was in the Regent Mall today. Sears is now down to selling the furniture. Has anyone heard anything about what is going to happen to that space? We have had some speculation on this site about Canadian Tire moving in and the other possibility of breaking the space into smaller stores. Any new information?

I think you're mixing up the Relishes. Sounds like you are describing the Downtown Relish location, since I doubt the REIT would sell the single building at the Corbett Centre.

As for what is happening at Corbett, the site plan shows it as a Taco Boyz location. I think someone mentionned that happening a few weeks back.

Canadian Tire was a rumour but extremely unlikely. The mall layout doesn't really make sense and it's not really the type of mall they would go for.

The most reasonable rumour I've heard is that Primaris is going to subdivide the space for multiple tenants.

Ideally it would be great if the Bay or Simmons were to move in. But those options are iffy for Moncton and a pipe dream for Freddy ultimately.

Sounds like they have specific stores in mind to fill the space. Any word on who/what specifically?

I saw that earlier today, and I admit I'm a bit disappointed in it.

Ultimately, I feel that the current location will prove to be too limiting for the future of the Playhouse. They're already tightly fit in their lot, so they don't really have any room for the future one way or another.

The current Courthouse location would have been great. Lots of room to go with whatever design they may want, including possible future proofed designs. And it spreads the arts and cultural foot print across downtown while still being relatively close to everything.

And while it wasn't on the radar, the old SMT Bus Terminal would also have been a perfect location. Close to where they are now, all the room for expansion they could ever want, and on one of the highest profile corners in the city. Imagine the entrance on the corner of Regent and King, big advertising signs for the current shows for everyone to see as they drive by every day; crowds lining up around there, drawing more attention, etc...

I don't think that location was ever very realistic. It's privately owned which would mean a large cost that doesn't exist with the other options.

I realize that, hence why I paraphrased it as not being on the Radar. It's basically a "What might of been..." dream, thinking of how the Playhouse on that corner could have basically set up a nano-sized Times Square in the downtown.

The SMT lot is easily the biggest eyesore in downtown. I was always pulling for the waterfront location but that site is a major challenge for the core going forward.

It's a big lot, and one of the highest traffic corners in the city. It really needs a project there that would Pop! Sadly, I don't think anything is even being considered, let alone in the works.

Still, a 8-10 story building with commercial on the bottom floor or two would certainly be ideal for there. Probably office for the rest; though maybe a Tri Use building could work. (Bottom floors commercial, middle floors offices, upper floors residential with large rooftop decks for the setbacks)
