Sorry guys, I’ve been a little busy. Quick update: TD Canada has agreed to finance the project. Also, I have the entire team assembled so we’re good to go just waiting for Golfi to find the land.

Almost forgot. I’m thinking of naming it the Renaissance Tower. For obvious reasons. Is there already a building named this? And what do you guys think?

Furthermore, about the land, we’re looking at Vine & MacNab - Infront of the Stelco Tower beside the Eaton Parkaid.

Have you talked to your lawyer about naming/trademark issues?

Yes, beside the parkaid.
Also, I’m from Chicago. This is an American company and I have the best lawyers in Chicago. I realize there is another company here named Empire Communities and it is something we’re working on as I write this.

I really like those 2 apartments downtown they did close to the escarpment where they are white and blue now - looks really sharp - I thought they were actually new builds at first - I think more old apartments should get this treatment.

There's not much your US lawyers will be able to help you with here. Especially on the development side you'll want someone with local knowledge and connections and possibly someone that can advocate for you at committees and the design review panel. Same thing goes with your property lawyer as you'll be needing a regional or local firm to handle the unit sales.

The only things adjacent to the Eaton's parkade are two small plots of land, one at the corner of Cannon and Vine with the Happy Hourz bar on it and a strip of land to the East of it. Neither of them really seem big enough for much of a tower.

Another quick update, there is a historic building on that land which will be incorporated into the design. Toms & MacNally are already conceptualizing said design. Stay tuned.

Also, the parking lot behind said historic building is where she’ll be going. We’ll have to make a payout to whomever owns the parking lot.

Yes, exactly.

Maybe we should have a vote on the name? Again, it’s your city - your Tower.
Think of some great names that would go well with Hamilton’ culture & history.

That is a fantastic location for a tower that size. Ground floor retail would be interesting there. You could also look into the site at James st s and Jackson. It was approved for 30 floors already. It was known as The Connolly. Good luck.

The Coppley building is also known as the Commercial Block and is the signature building of Frederick Rastrick: https://www.raisethehammer.org/article/516/?view=flat

Lots of inspiration out of that, I can see why your architect would seize on it.

How about 'The Foundry' - based on the casting of the Coppley columns at the McQuestan foundry.

If the design incorporates retail along both street frontages, perhaps with setbacks for patios or outdoor food stalls, you could also consider Market Square or The Market Tower ..... as this used to be part of the historic Market Square district in Hamilton.

The Foundry or Market Square - nice although Market Square across from the actual Hmailton market may be a little more relevant
