Regarding the above-mentioned "protrusion." It is NOT for the hotel elevators. Those are on the North and South sides below the lantern. The protrusion on the West side is a "bay" window area on each floor, which will run as a "spine" from the lantern to the hotel lobby roof. If you look closely, you will see the protrusions of the floor plate at several levels.

On another matter, the cladding around the base of the lantern looks awful.

I imagine that to get to the hotel, you'd take an elevator up to the lowest floor of the hotel and take another one up to your desired floor.

No, it looks awful regardless. And awful in person. I can't understand why they couldn't extend the cladding on the shaft up to the top. And either wrapped that around the North/South sides of the cooling tower or extended the glass up the cooling tower.

You'll be able to see elevators climbing either side of the lantern from the art museum, west philly and beyond. To me it's obvious in the design that this thing is built to dazzle at night in an integrated and functional way unlike any other skyscraper in north america. I would have liked some of the materials to look better during the day...especially the cladding on the west side....but i think when this is finally done a lot of the sins of the day will be absolved by it's glory at night

The restaurant at the top will be higher elevation than the Cipriani Rainbow Room atop of Rockefeller Center (an old fav of mine).

I will definitely be dining at this new restaurant for sure. If they are at the caliber of Cipriani, they will know me by name.

When Cipriani closed the Rainbow Grill many years ago, nothing has ever truly replicated it.

The question is; Will Cipriani host a Philly restaurant?

I hope we do get a Cipriani's; I love Cipriani's. Occasionally I still go to the one on 42nd Street but the Rainbow room; wow. Good memories.

Is this wishful thinking or have you seen previews of how it’s going to illuminate?

Philadelphia buildings tend to be pretty dull and disappointing at night. FMC kinda bucked this trend, unfortunately nothing in center city has so far.

I hope you're right. But I still think they could've made material choices that look better in the day. But, on balance, it's a great and important addition to the City and the skyline.
