Why not? If done right it would make a good covered walkway. It would give a great view as you ride in, and it would show how modern the city is.

Pretty much. Unless TransLink puts the viaduct on a road or median, they'll be tearing up the forest, tearing up the golf course, or tearing up somebody's property values. Either way, you've got a large group of people screaming — murder.

Speaking of Arbutus as a transit hub, has anybody found out where they're going to put the bus loop? Doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room near the intersection.

I love the elevated lines - getting to see the beautiful vistas this area has to offer is a far more pleasant transit experience than being stuffed into a dark, noisy tunnel.

im not sure if the cost savings have been estimated if most of the local routes to ubc are cut back to blanca loop, sasamat loop or dunbar loop or eliminated (b-line), since passengers to ubc should be transferring to skytrain as early as possible in their trip
Yes, the #99 as a bus line could be eliminated entirely, instead of being reduced ~50%. With the train running to Arbutus, it's reasonable to assume that actual volume of people riding public transit to UBC will still increase. While the 99 generates great revenue, buses still lose millions of dollars, and I'm not clear where they will be turning around at the Arbutus terminus.

Alas, we need all the NIMBYs to move into retirement homes and/or hospitals first.

i've always guessed either the portion of the block west of the rail tracks where the cleaners are located on the s.e. corner, or the western portion of the block with the rogers phone store on the n.e. corner is where the bus loop might go

Ah, but the Rogers/Fido lot is where they want to put the SkyTrain station. And I'm pretty sure that if the drycleaners' isn't a "heritage site," people will scream until it is.

They could evict the Shell station or build on top of the Christmas tree lot (due north of Rogers/Fido), but then you'd get the same idiotic pedestrian chaos that Cambie suffers from.

Random thoughts regarding a UBC alignment:

- Jericho lands should get a station (funded by the development)
- there are 3 road with centre medians approaching the campus (16th Ave., University Blvd and NW Marine Drive/4th Ave)
- Musqueam may eventually decommission the University Golf Club, so an elevated alignment needn't be on the median of University Blvd - in time it could be offset to the south and weave through the student housing to campus
- South campus/ Westbrook Village should have a station (terminus)
- UBC should pay for main campus station and Westbrook Village station.

I still think the primary idea behind platform doors is stupid.

We built all our stations to be open spaces. Sure, lets box them in even more.

Platform screen doors are required to open/close swiftly to minimize train dwell times. A vertically moving door will have 2 obvious disadvantages. First, it's the weight issue. The longer the door, the heavier it is, which means it'll require a more complicated setup to move swiftly. If it can open/close quickly, then it becomes a safety issue. Because we have to consider morons doing stupid things like trying to beat the door, the door has to move slowly to avoid bumping their heads. And you know these idiots will be happy to sue even if it's their own fault. If it has to move as slow as garage door then it doesn't serve its purpose.

Sounds interesting on paper, but I question its practicality.

With the internet of things and basically everything having an unnecessary connection to the internet, like fridges, washing machines, dildos that have cameras on them, even car washes, I can honestly see someone hacking into this and creating some havoc with deadly consequences, not to mention what would happen in the event of a power failure and some people just so happen to be underneath it.

What's wrong with using horizontal screen doors? Honest question.

Slightly less standing room at the very edge of the platform (where virtually nobody stands in the first place) seems a small price to pay for ending suicides medical emergencies and all the crowding/delays that come with them.

Point taken. Still, it's a pretty low priority - once TransLink finally gets around to it , I'm guessing that (at least) the Mark Is will be phased out.
