Blah. The design is way below par compared to the Mount Pleasant office projects of comparable density/massing. Fake stone, and the type of curtain wall you'd find in a suburban office park. Who was the architect?

I don't mind the stone but yes that curtain wall is a bit painful. I never noticed that little stone building beside this. Looks great! What's in there?

How do you know that's fake stone?

I think the architect was our own D Leung lol.

That "stone" building was there before the new one beside it, and was originally built in the 60's.

I had it in my head that the little faux stone building was for Artona, the thieves who run the student photos racket at Vancouver elementary and high schools.

GASP

Way too small for our office. And the design embodies all of my pet peeves.

New housing pilot program is out to prospective builders and developers with 20 sites to be selected by either late January or mid-February to be expedited.

In my opinion 1555 W 8th Ave. building is one of the best-looking contemporary infill buildings popping up in Vancouver: it's not yet another cookie-cutter product. However, West 8th and 10th Avenues should both be retail/commercial streets, not just residential. It's a mistake to make it so. To have a more vibrant district, we need to create a more walkable retail/commercial node rather than one that spans only along a long stretch. That's why Kingsway and Main Street are mostly dead, especially at night.

Speaking of Norquay Village, have there been any stacked townhouse or row-house projects there yet?

Henriquez twitter says Joyce got its development permit last week:

What if a tower wasn't just a building, but a bridge between a community and its skyline? We’re celebrating a project milestone for Joyce by @westbankcorp, which received its development permit this week.

More temporary housing -

Touted by Daily Hive as being in Olympic Village - it's actually in False Creek South or Lower Fairview.
It's at 2nd & Ash , just west of Olympic Village Canada Line Station.

Does the city actually define "temporary" in its info packets?

The building would be in place for up to
five years, with the possibility to extend another five
years and would be managed 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week, by an experienced non-profit housing operator.

It's great to see a completely under utilized piece of city land being put to work. As my partner works in the area, you can bet we'll both be there to show support for this project. If the new False Creek South area plan is given right support, hopefully it will allow this land to do even better in the future.
