It's quite lame in person actually. Medicine Hat is a funny little city, they have a massive hate on for Calgary, they think we're Chicago with 200 murders a year lol. They didn't like it when I pointed out that Teepee was actually from the opening ceremonies of the 88 Olympics.

Weird I had no idea that was from our opening ceremony. Apparently it's the biggest teepee in the world.

I was pleasantly surprised when I visited Medicine Hat this summer for the first time. It's like an island in the prairies. Lots of cool historical buildings and character in the old downtown. I explored it quite a bit. There's even a cool pedestrian tunnel full of graffiti that goes under the rail yard. They also have a really cool arts centre that's very modern.

Not sure how it would look in a city, but in that empty landscape, at the edge of that ridge, it looks quite majestic. It has also aged quite well for 1988!

Now, if someone in the prairies built an even taller one, wow!

It was in McMahon during the ceremonies I believe.

The athletes walked under it as they entered McMann.

Brookfield is pretty much a glass box and is boring af, but that's not our nicest in my mind.

Nice try though lol.
You think the Bow is Calgary's most beautiful tower? I guess we have a massive difference of opinion then. In my mind, Brookfield is the best tower in Calgary (maybe replaced by Telus Sky). I guess I'm just someone who appreciates minimalism, which is why Stantec and JW look great imo. To each their own.

You okay? You seem to have some ASPD issues.

I too think Brookfield is the nicest in Calgary. The Bow has more elements, but Brookfield just stands out so well. I'm curious how Telus will turn out, I never really liked it in the renders, so we'll see about the finished product

the new Marriot in Edmonton is turning out pretty nice, but Stantec is underwhelming. About the only thing going for it is its bulk and height.. It'll probably look better lit & animated but overall I would say that tower is not the greatest.

Minimalism can work, but there's a such thing as too minimal. Besides, minimalism is only successful when it has something to contrast.

The Bow is Calgary's best tower with the worst urban setting. Brookfield Place isn't a bad tower. It has some curtain wall. I find it has some subtle massing and design issues which for a simple form draped in simple cladding stands out.

Hopefully you made it to the Clay District and also took a little side trip to Red Rock Coulee south of Seven Persons.

Nah, the Bankers Hall twins are the best looking towers in Calgary.

Checked out the Clay district and the old DT. Never saw Red Rock Coulee though. Like I said, I was auite impressed. I had sero expectations and when you do that boring ass drive to get there with nothing to see for two and a half hours then suddenly this city pops out of nowhere it was kinda cool. They put a lot into their urban landscaping too. The public flower beds were beautiful and a million times nicer than anything I’ve seen in Calgary. They also had an impressive stock of old houses with a huge range of architectural styles, some of which I’ve never seen in Calgary before.

I personally think that 707 Fifth is the best looking tower in Calgary.

Something seemed 'off' about that photo to me and you captured it. Definitely something of a statement to see Suncor shadowed like that. The king falls...

707 looks great, it flys a bit under the radar because it isn't very tall but it turned out amazing. For me, maybe I'm strange, but I still think Suncor looks the best in our skyline. I kind of see it as our Scotia Plaza. A zeitgeist for a certain time that probably won't be revisited, and yet captures in a well executed way that style.

I agree. Telus Sky might take #1 though when it’s complete.
