On those lights or tusks or whatever? Must not have used quality materials, anything in contact with the sidewalk should be quite durable as it's quite likely people will be banging it with shovels when clearing sidewalks...

true enough.

hmmm... lamp standards; granite bollards; sculpture gardens in the middle of the street; wading pools with no water; blatchford; northlands; coliseum; bridge construction, reconstruction and maintenance; signalling systems; hotels with no access; canada place; adding a federal prison to downtown; creating market intervention zoning...

maybe we don't need new fighter jets or frigates or combat peacekeepers after all. maybe we could just put our planning and administration departments on loan to the federal government for subversive insertion to places like north korea and just wait for them to self destruct before moving on the next hot spot...

A portion of the decision makers within city administration are a festering pile of idiots.

Since World War II, US intelligence agencies have devised innovative ways to defeat their adversaries. In 1944, CIA’s precursor, the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), created the Simple Sabotage Field Manual.

This classified booklet described ways to sabotage the US’ World War II enemies. The OSS Director William J. Donovan recommended that the sabotage guidance be declassified and distributed to citizens of enemy states via pamphlets and targeted broadcasts.

Surprisingly Relevant Sabotage Instructions

Many of the sabotage instructions guide ordinary citizens, who may not have agree with their country’s wartime policies towards the US, to destabilize their governments by taking disruptive actions. Some of the instructions seem outdated; others remain surprisingly relevant. Together they are a reminder of how easily productivity and order can be undermined.

Here’s a list of five particularly timeless tips from the Simple Sabotage Field Manual:

Managers and Supervisors: To lower morale and production, be pleasant to inefficient workers; give them undeserved promotions. Discriminate against efficient workers; complain unjustly about their work.
Employees: Work slowly. Think of ways to increase the number of movements needed to do your job: use a light hammer instead of a heavy one; try to make a small wrench do instead of a big one.
Organizations and Conferences: When possible, refer all matters to committees, for "further study and consideration." Attempt to make the committees as large and bureaucratic as possible. Hold conferences when there is more critical work to be done.
Telephone: At office, hotel and local telephone switchboards, delay putting calls through, give out wrong numbers, cut people off “accidentally,” or forget to disconnect them so that the line cannot be used again.
Transportation: Make train travel as inconvenient as possible for enemy personnel. Issue two tickets for the same seat on a train in order to set up an “interesting” argument.

that last comment on the trains really makes you wonder..

^ Sounds like someone at city Hall wrote it up - they can probably add a whole section on city roadwork as well.

What a gong show.

Federal Prison ...I assume Ken you mean Grierson? If so that site should be saved for a museum.

yep, and great news! wasn't sure if cidex would be able to get moving on that soon with their huge west village project in Calgary ongoing, so very pleasant surprise for the new year.

iirc, at one point someone was trying to secure the rest of the block for development.. did that happen, or did cidex just end up with the pit?

^was waiting for that.

Keep in mind that the 500m can be varied and very recently was once again not upheld as a reason to consider at the Court of Appeal.

The University of Alberta’s south campus will be the home of a new integrated public lab facility that will allow more health tests to be done more quickly in Edmonton.

It's not on the UofA South Campus lands. It's on the Provincal Campus crown lands which contain Neil Crawford buildings and Medical Examiner building and others like School for the Deaf.

Makes sense. The NDP have made that a priority, and the existing labs are in need of upgrading. Also coincides with the end of Dynalife's lease extension
