That's to distinguish the three subway stations. It's supposed to be gold at Lyon, I think red at Parliament and blue at Rideau.

The Spadina Subway extension in Toronto opened this morning at 8am EST. At 8.6km / 5.3 miles, it is the longest extension to Toronto's network since 1978 and the first extension since 2002.

The line has 6 new stations, and for the first time, extends the subway past the municipal boundary of Toronto into the City of Vaughan. The stations are quite grand, and have several mass transit connections. One connects to the Barrie GO commuter rail line, one will soon have a connection to the Finch West LRT, which is currently in early prep construction, and the terminus station has a connection to an in median BRT system in Vaughan.

This the second of 3 major transit openings in Toronto in the tail end of 2017. Earlier in November, the Mississauga Transitway grade separated BRT opened it's final station, Renforth, and on December 30th, the Barrie GO commuter rail line will officially launch all day hourly frequency train services, making it the 5th GO line to offer off peak all day GO services.

Wow! I didn't even know about the Mississauga BRT. I will have to check that out.

Ive got plans for the end of the year, might not be able to see all the transit projects this year. Maybe spring.

I heard about the BRT for Mississauga and seen it, it doesn't look very interesting but if it works for some people, then it's fine. Faster service across a stretch of Mississauga that's fairly lacklustre.....might get better in twenty years.

I was skeptical of Mississauga Transitway as well but the express routes 107 and 109 became very popular, even before the transitway opened.

I think the full potential of Mississauga Transitway though is as part of regional BRT system. There will be the 407 Transitway as well, and GO's 407 routes are already its busiest. All day train service to Union should be the priority but they have to think about crosstown service as well.

Of course, if Toronto built Eglinton LRT to connect to the Mississauga Transitway and the airport, also entirely grade-separated, using the Richview corridor, it would have helped the transitway as well, and it would probably have made a lot more sense than building yet another east-west line to Kennedy station and into Scarborough But Toronto is run by idiots, don't expect much from them.

The Eglinton West LRT project would solve that issue, going right to Renforth, where Mississauga's BRT ends....but if that ever happens it would likely be done in 15 years after the Eglinton Crosstown, the Finch West LRT, and the DRL.

The airport link should hopefully be resolved by whatever airport transit hub the city of Mississauga/GTAA/Toronto is taking about with GTAA and the airport itself. For now we have the same airport rocket we've had for years, running from Keele Station.

Anything especially notable here? Thought all these had been announced and deadlines for PTIF were Dec 2018...not that it looks to be an issue with these.

Expensive, but these aren't simple bike racks. They're big bike shelters, similar to the one in Sainte-Julie.

I think the Miss Transitway is an excellent piece of infrastructure and will prove to be well patronized and adds a great deal of connectivity across the region including cross regional GO bus service. It is fast, reliable, safe, comfortable, and offers far superior flexibility than any LRT system would have offered.

LRT was never considered, and upgrading BRT to LRT is possible (see Ottawa). Also, Mississauga is also planning LRT along Hurontario. I don't see why bring BRT vs. LRT into this.

That funicular looks pretty cool, and I like its unabashedly modern design. Usually incline railways/funiculars are old timey things.

I'm surprised that the TTC subway extension didn't get more play here. It's probably the most significant transit expansion to open in Canada since the Canada line.

I'm pretty interested to see the map now of the TTC subways....I can't imagine going to Vaughan anytime soon....though I might just go up there sometime this spring, give a few updates for here. From what UT is showing, the YMCA/library/office tower across the street from the VMC subway station is going up pretty fast, already a third of it's height now (9 floors)

2 days and I will get a chance to ride the new subway. Not gonna bother with updates, enough have been posted, but will finally be able to see what all the fuss is about on these new stations.

More important, they need to approve and fund the DRL, which after the RER rail electrification project is the most important rail project for the future growth of the city. It boggles my mind we are gonna spend 4 billion dollars for subway to Scarborough that will ultimately just clog up Yonge-Bloor some more. (Suburbs rule us)

I don't get why Metrolinx just won't plainly state that it's a bad tnvestment.

I'll probably check out the line 1 extension over Christmas at some point since I'm just sticking around town. Plan to get off at VCC to see the windswept emptiness, and also York University since I've refused to ride the 196 express bus since graduating from my Master's in 2009. It's a fairly significant extension although the utility after Pioneer Station is questionable (including that one as the bus situation at York lanes was a shitshow).

It's a political landmine, and the province's official line that municipalities "are a mature and responsible order of government". It's the gift from Rob Ford (and to a lesser extent Transit City marketing under Miller) that just keeps on giving!
