Indeed. The city's coming of age.

I know some in Atlanta have tried to compare it to NYC, but in reality, I think it has become more like LA junior (which isn't a bad thing).

Transformation

Stunning, the transformation the city's undergone in just the last five years. And just wait for the next five.

Atlanta feels like a different class of city now than even in 2010.

Absolutely. And I like to think of Atlanta as being different than LA or other US cities. Atlanta is becoming it's own large scale development, southern, walkable city. Reminds me of a less dense city growing into where you can still meander around town for miles.

Atlanta has a lot of similarities to LA in the way its structured, but I think on the plus side Atlanta's Midtown/Downtown feels more centralized then LA's downtown, by a long shot actually. When you go to LA you still really feel that downtown is irrelevant even with all the development going on there recently. In that regard I think Atlanta has its own thing going for it, LA style sub areas, but has more of a city core feeling, and growing fast.

Mixed-use project along Piedmont Park moving forward

https://www.bizjournals.com/atlanta/news...-project-along-piedmont-park-moving.html

Quote:
A mixed-use project on the edge of Piedmont Park that could include a new hotel appears to be moving forward.

A joint venture called 10th and Monroe LLC is expected to present to Invest Atlanta at its Dec. 21 board meeting, according to sources with knowledge of the project.

At that time, it was thought the project along Monroe Drive near 10th Street and next to Park Tavern restaurant could include apartments, townhomes and a boutique hotel, according to sources. It could also include a natural foods grocer and several chef-driven restaurants lining the Beltline.

The project would rise along a high-profile site with impressive views of the Atlanta skyline. It could also be an important catalyst for intersection improvements at 10th Street and Monroe Drive, where Grady High School freshman Alexia Hyneman was killed in 2016 riding her bike.
These are some concept renderings that have been floating around.

I will be pumped if they build more residences directly adjacent the park, even if it spoils some of the skyline view from Virginia Highland. The more foottraffic in the area and pressure on these crummy strip mall developments along the beltline to redevelop, the better.

500 million is a lot of money. Didn't realize this was going to be that big.

Any news come out of Thursday morning's review of the Gultch proposal? I figured something would have leaked out about that project by now.

Pratt Stacks

The Providence Group has file a LD permit for a 138-unit stacked condo development at 385 Grant Circle. It looks like this is on the Beltline across the street from The Beacon.

There's a giant parking deck being built at The Edge right now. Can someone clarify the ingress/egress from it? Is it supposed to be accessible from Airline St.?

Here's the site plan. The parking decks always look huge when its the first thing that gets built.
