The economics of this would be insane if this were true. There would be as many high rolling drug dealers as there would be customers, let alone the logistics of having a building filled with drug dealers. I just don't see them all getting along well enough for this to work. Also, i just don't see the demand for this in such high density.

We have entered into an agreement with a developer to purchase the property behind the church at the corner of Juniper and 5th to build a residential tower. It is scheduled to close by the end of 2018 and take two years to build. No details have been revealed yet, but a two year construction time indicates a significant size building. The church will own approximately 200 parking spots on a number of floors to be determined in a parking deck between the tower and the church. If all goes as planned, completion should be in early 2021.
This is one of the ones I knew was in the pipeline. lol, glad you wanted to share.

Of course it is a lie. All places do credit and background checks, not to mention require a salary history that meets 2-3 times monthly rent. Do people sometimes slip through the cracks? Sure, people can get cosigners, etc. But these are isolated incidents and not the norm and I can speak with 100% confidence about the demographics in these apartments.

Further, for those worried about "now leasing signs", there are typical leasing paces that are acceptable and for large towers w/ 300 something units that leads to lease ups that last 12-15 months and are accounted for.

It's simple: there are enough drug dealers to create a headline/major incident in certain buildings, which gives him a coded way to bemoan that the buildings aren't as white as he would expect or prefer without appearing racist.

It's a tactic that would probably work over at city-data, honestly.

THIS! it's probably a lie rooted in sour grapes from one who was rejected or had a prejudiced unsavory experience with "drug dealers". in any event, i applied to three properties in midtown over the past year as i may become a part-time resident. they're not just letting anyone in - it's no different than what i experience in miami or fort lauderdale.

What is even so bizarre about those statements is that my experience living in specifically the Skyhouse South is that is was an extremely diverse mix of race, age, —, etc. We had empty nesters, young professionals, Tech students, GA State Students, gay people, straight people, white people, black people, asian people, and so on. It seems so absurd someone could even suggest these towers are filled with "drug dealers".

LOL... "probably work" as if I have a stake in the outcome of this argument. It's not like you've thrown out any of your own anecdotal evidence to prove me otherwise...calling me racist is just lazy. The headlines plus my own experience are enough for me and any other person who puts truth and reality over virtue signaling.

LOL I lived in high end apartments for 13 years in this city and none of them were even 5% occupied by drug dealers. This is fake news.

Please don't entertain him / her. This is a development thread, not their soapbox for his racism and unsubstantiated claims (other than his surely well researched anecdotal evidence).

Mods, if anyone moderates this, can we clean this up?

Typical snowflake - silence opinions you don't agree with.

I'm offering my opinion as to why the high rise apartment model in Atlanta is FAILING. Is that too much for your sensibilities?

If it's failing, it's failing upward, because they keep building and filling them. What's the Peter Principle analogue for development?

New rendering of Anthem tower - Curbed

"New rendering of Anthem tower in Midtown highlights street-level connection"

I can't really tell much difference in the new renderings.

This is a top notch share, thanks for the contribution to this thread! This project would really bolster the area nearby, especially if the 5th & Juniper project across the street finally goes under construction as well. New residences and foottraffic would be great for this part of midtown. Hopefully it puts some pressure on the Eviva and 4th & Peachtree parcel(s, one on the southeast and other on the northeast of the intersection) for development.

I can't either. I think these are the same renderings posted on Portman's website several months ago.

Don't need no stinken trolls 'round here--
10,000 new units in the last 5 years is not defined as failing, is it?

How ironic, also making a statement like "Well there are plenty of drug dealers in Atlanta, which is the demographic filling up most of these towers. The "young professional" crowd is definitely a minority" is LAZY as well..

Where is your proof? There are definitely drug dealers who live in high rises, there are drug dealers who live almost anywhere in the world actually.. You make it sound like you have statistics that show that a majority of people who live in high rises in Atlanta are made up of drug dealers.. and where is your evidence?

Also curious what makes you say "the high rise apartment model in Atlanta is FAILING"?
