By intercity, do you mean VIA or GO? I'm just talking about second GO (which I refer to as commuter rail) central station.

My reasoning is to keep both central commuter stations in the central core of the city where Toronto has the highest concentration of office space and so that commuter have easy access the the two downtown subway lines.

At least Calgary got it right with the design for the Green Line - at least for the first phase. I sure hope they don't keep up with the plan to go at grade along Centre Street North in the second phase, because that's a recipe for disaster, IMO.

The arguments against Montreal's REM were thrown out of court today, calling the opponents' position as fabulation and wishful thinking. Rarely I've read such harsh words from a judge, especially one that worked at the BAPE.

No English source yet.

Sorry, Intracity. I like the potential of another office hub in the downtown area over continuing to slam more density into the CBD. What's holding back College/Dundas or Bloor from reaching that potential is an awkward, nightmarish commute for transit users. (first hand experience there)

Was it just a case of NIMBYism?

How do they figure the line will be built in 2 years?

Not really. Just "independent transit analysts" saying the projet will be a vector for urban sprawl, that's it just a cash cow for the Caisse, that the wrong technology is used, the usual bullshit.

The project obviously won't be up and running in December 2020, even though CDPQ Infra always said it was only going to be a segment and not the whole network. With a (supposed) spring construction start, we can forget about that now.

The most disgusting thing about this opposition to the project is that it's backed by the union representing train and metro operators (the SCFP), which is more concerned about losing potential members to automatisation than the transit investments Montreal desperately needs.

February to December 2020 is nearly 3 years. It can be done for a segment I'm sure of it.

But yes, the unions overreached their mandate once again.

Let's do a friendly bet

Work will more likely begin in April or May if the contracts are awarded mid-february.

Well you have connections on the project so I trust you more, but it's still feasible.

The project was first unveiled on April 22nd 2016. My bet is for the work to start around that date in 2018

All things relative, two years start after initial announcement is still faster than any other project. S

Confederation Line tunnel from the City of Ottawa's Facebook, including some amazing progress on Lyon. I never think of checking there, but I'm glad I did today.

The PM, Premier Wynne and Mayor Joh Tory were at the ribbon cutting event for the new Yonge university Spadina line extension that goes past Downsview Park, through York University and to Vaughan's new downtown.

Yea.....with Eglinton Crosstown too....Midtown and Northwest Toronto will be completely different. I can't believe already what Vaughan's building....there'll be some interesting things going on up there. I'm very curious how numbers will be in terms of ridership after a year of this new subway line being open.

Seeing the subway map changed in the subway cars will be interesting.....even more interesting will be the subway map with Eglinton's line in 2021 (Likely 2022).

Another restaurant in the Union Station redevelopment opened today (for training) - Union Chicken. Looks like a very large restaurant, mimicking an upscale affair.

There is also a new Italian Restaurant right across from the chicken joint, that opened a couple weeks ago. Come into U ion Station by Spring 2018, plan to have your mind blown.
